The offset command will not create an offset curve if there exists a concave radius of curvature that is less than the specified offset value. For a spline this may exist if the Control Vertices (CVs) are very close together. The blue dots indicate the location of the CVs. The selected spline on the left is the original spline. Note the close spacing of the CVs in the areas circled in red. In addition, offset will not handle sharp internal corners such as the areas circled in green. Using splinedit I deleted some of these CVs with the resulting spline on the right. Offset did produce a spline for this spline.


Deleting the excessive CVs may require moving some CVs to recreate the desired shape. In addition, the sharp corners may require using more than one spline to define the outline.
