Offset line (ellipse) makes Autocad Freeze

Hello Everyone,

My co-worker ran into a problem when offsetting a line that caused Autocad 2021, 2022 to freeze.

The 2d drawing is created via Flatshot of a 3D Autocad pipe assembly.

Does this happen on other versions?

It there a way to detect and correct it?

See attached drawing, one in 2018 format, the other 2013 format.

Hi @Scottu2,

I don't know if this helps, but the ellipse does not appear to be displaying correctly, from any angle.

I was able to see the freeze you mentioned. I am also able to increase the size of the ellipse such that I can see the elliptical shape by dragging he center grip. I can then offset it correctly.

That being said, the object may be corrupted and will need to be redrawn.

All the best.

@Scottu2 ,

Another thing is to Change true ellipse into polyline in AutoCAD.

Then download the following LISP (pline-3d-2d.lsp) to convert the 3D Polylines into 2D (Command: PL32).

See updated DWG attached.

I suggest you clean up or redraw these lines. The converting them to 2D Polyline makes them somewhat jagged. Consider changing their color before converting the ellipse, just to facilitate the clean-up / redrawing.

Thanks for all the great suggestions.

Thank you Valentin-WSP for your suggestion.  Using Recover is the easiest way to fix the drawing.  I can now safely offset the line (ellipse).  I still get the error message and that okay.  I prefer not to lose all my changes.

I pretty sure the 46 errors was the missing 2nd vertex of Z-axis line and that ellipse was missing something too.
