Objects hidden from view AutoCad 2013

The file I opened had multiple objects, including a whole layer of objects, missing from my drawing. These "deleted" objects do appear in the preview window of my drawing however. Overall there is at least 20 hours of drawings unable to be found and it is crucial that they are able to be recovered.

this picture captures my problem.  In the small screen you can see there are green thick polylines and some smaller black polylines (they are actually thick white polylines with a black outline) which do not show up in my drawing

The "preview" is a small static image embedded in your DWG file, not a view inside your file's current condition or state: you are probably missing an XREF or content you want got deleted. There is nothing you can do about it with the preview image.

Read about preview images here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Conten...

This was useful information. Thank you.   With more digging though the forums, I was able to come up with a solution by using the RECOVER tool in the drawing utilities.

Finally found solution in another forum post.  All I needed to do was go to the AutoCAD icon top left corner, click on "Drawing Utilities", then "Recover".  After loading for about 2-3 minutes The screen below popped up and I was able to click "OK" and my file was back to normal.  Hope this helps out others with similar problems in the future.
