Nonoverlapping Lines and ''Zero'' Distance Between Them

Nonoverlapping Lines and ''Zero'' Distance Between Them

Hello,

I have a problem with non-overlapping lines outwardly when I have a closer look on the point.

Here how it looks,

Adsız.png

And when I go closer one line disappears.

fsfsf.png

And when I measure the distance between those nonoverlapping lines, dimension shows '' zero''.

I thought maybe I was working on 3D drawing, but when I checked it, everything was on the same plane. I also checked the Z coordinates of the lines, they are all zero. However when I use the 'Flatten' command, all drawings are messed up. What could be the problem? Could you please help me with that?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

am I correct that this issue does not appear if you turn off hardware acceleration? Try to disable it using command _GRAPHICSCONFIG.

At least my thought on that is that the coordinates are high or you are zoomed very, very close to that point ... when you are zoomed that close and you move the cursor you don't see coordinate differences when starting command _ID one time on the top left and a second time on the bottom right corner of the display.

Whenever hardware acceleration is active then it does not work with the same precision as AutoCAD itself does and then it might show display issues like that.

Hello,

I have turned off the hardware acceleration, however the problem still exists. When I type the _ID command for each corner it shows the same X,Y, Z coordinates.

Also, I do not know if it is related with that but when I open the dwg file, there is a proxy information box popping up.

Hi,

in addition to Hardware Acceleration from GRAPHICSCONFIG command please make sure that your lines are NOT too far from 0,0,0 .

Hi,

>> When I type the _ID command for each corner it

>> shows the same X,Y, Z coordinates

That means you have reached the mathematical limits of vector display calculation.

>> I do not know if it is related with that but when I

>> open the dwg file, there is a proxy information

I guess no, that phenomena also happens without any proxy objects.

I would move the drawing more close to 0,0 and if necessary scale the geometry and set the dwg-file to other units.

That's the closest drawing to the 0,0,0. I do not know how I can manage it for each drawing.

about the units, I am giving the dimension as centimeter and my unıt settings are like,,

Hi,

>> That's the closest drawing to the 0,0,0

Can you please upload the dwg-file + send us 2 screenshot2:

  • from dialog of command _ABOUT
  • from dialog of command _GRAPHICSCONFIG

Hi,

while I'm looking to your drawing please first install the AutoCAD Update 2018.1.2, you have not installed any update.

You can do that using the Autodesk Desktop App or downloading the update from the subscription center (https://manage.autodesk.com).

The _ABOUT dialog should look like that:

Hi,

can you please show us the coordinates where you see the display issues?

Another information (not related to this issue, just as information) your UNITS are set to Millimeter, but you are drawing in Centimeter (e.g. a door is 75 units wide, which are not Millimeter 😉 ).

This is what I see when I check the updates on the webpage and desktop app,

And this is the coordinates

x:14252.9309  Y:109.0296   Z:0.000

I have changed the unit settings from milimeter to centimeter .

Hi,

>> This is what I see when I check the updates on the webpage

I even don't see AutoCAD on that site as listed product, are you running the trial version?

If not maybe you need to ask your contract manager for permission to get/install the update.

>> And this is the coordinates

I guess you had a UCS active, because the point shown is outside of any of the existing floor plans.

Anyway I have found the location based on your screenshots (thank your for them) and can see that there is a bit of (not measureable) distance, but you can correct this 😉

It is not a display issue, it's inaccuracy happened during the construction process. I have attached a video that shows a bit of how this can be corrected. But keep in mind, these ultra-small distances compared to the large extents of your whole drawing (from -25000,-50000 to +75000,+117000) has to be handled carefully (even it would have been better to not "implement" these small issues) 😉

The report of 0 distance is limited by your units settings.  If you want a higher precision of distance measurement, change your units to a more precise measurement.  You need to use snap if you are bothered by distances below 0.0001 of a millimeter.  Think about it.  Architecturally, is anyone carrying around a microscope when building forms or framing? I see you are a student. Talk to your teacher.

Hello,

Thank you for the video. In the first place I showed via screenshots, the problem occurs because of the reasons not related to me. On the other parts that you have corrected, highly likely my mistake because of the problems I had before that is why it is correctable.

I have a student trial version for 3-years. I could not find how I can actually manage to contact with my contract manager but anyway I will deal with that.

About the UCS,

I have checked it and it's open (by mistake).

I hope that it will not affect my drawing after a while ( for example, when I measure distance between some points, the distance would change each time.  I had that problem before in another drawing.)
