New version of AutoCAD not keeping up with mouse clicks

I have been using AutoCAD since 1996.  I recently updated my version from 2012 to 2013 (my subscription ran out a couple years ago, so 2013 is the most recent version I can have).  I also got a brand new laptop with Windows 8 (the laptop is an ASUS ROG with 32 GB memory, 3GB Nvidea card, etc, so the laptop specs are not the problem).

Like many long-time AutoCAD users, I click the left and right mouse buttons very fast when running commands.  Very fast. For example, when using the STRETCH command, I use the left mouse button twice to select the objects, and then hit the right mouse button to stop selecting and specify the base point.

The problem is that my last two clicks (the left-then-right) clicks happen very fast... like 1/10th of a second.  I have been doing this for years with no problem.  But now when I do that left-right click, it doesn't recognize the second click (the right button).  If I do it a bit slower (about a half-second wait) it works perfectly well.

There are doznes of commands I use on a regular basis (thousands of times a day) where this is messing up.  Any idea why?  I really don't want to re-train myself to slow my steps down.

I have tried two different mice... both are encountering the same problem.  No other programs running... AutoCAD is only using 3% to 8% of my CPU.  I have looked at the Windows 8 mouse settings screen, and nothing addresses this sort of thing.

I appreciate any feedback.  Thanks!

Turn off DYNMODE: all suddenly work?
Turn off autocomplete: same? Better?

There is nothin unique about 2013: look around hear forums, your "too fast mouse clicking gets wrong command" has been around for a decade and sadly 2013 exposed a weakness in your system to trigger it.

No real fix, just workarounds. It may go away if you change PCs or move up a version or three, no one really knows. All that can be confirmed: using the mouse button for <enter> is the culprit.

Good luck: take all advise from others of presented here, but most won't really work for all of us. You might luck out though.

Same thing happening to me since i reinstalled windows and Autocad (windows fresh start). In some cases the 1st click does something different, but it surely does not what the click of mouse should do in that instance(mostly nothing happens on 1st click).
It's really annoying and not my mouse either and the rest is same as you stated in your comment. Turning off DYNMODE also did not solve anything.

I would also appreciate any feedback regarding this.

Thanks

Your AutoCAD year-version is...?
Your Windows version is...?
Your video card is...?
Your mouse make/model and mouse driver version is...?

"fresh start" isn't telling anyone much about your setup.

What i meant with fresh start was format and reinstall windows and all other software.

Autocad ver. 2019

Windows 10

Nvidia 960m

Evoluent VerticalMouse C series (evoluent mouse manager ver 5.7.0.1)

It never did this before the "fresh start".

It also only does this with certain commands like rotating with "reference" command or when mirroring etc.

Hi,

can you show this behavior using Autodesk Screencast (>>>click<<<) or other video recording software?

so this is a laptop with a wireless bluetooth mouse?

What if your mouse was an old fashioned wired mouse and you restart your laptop before testing 2019 again?

Hi Guys

So i tested it with wired mouse and problem seems to persist, but after some further investigation in windows itself i found that in some cases it does the same thing in windows 10. So the conclusion is that its not Autocad that is the culprit but rather windows. Will reply to this post when i found a solution.

Thanks for the help though and sorry if i wasted any of your time!

The same thing here, Acad 2019 suddenly does not keep up with mouse clicks while selecting by window left to right or vice versa. If to click slower between picking points, the selection set is created. It's not a lag really, as the selection set is not created neither with relay when clicking fast. Wondering if it's the mouse driver, mouse settings in Windows or autocad related..

I've found, when working with different computers, that a wireless mouse is much worse than a wired one. The problem seems to be that a command is initiated on the release of the mouse button, not when pressing it. At speed, it is easy to move the mouse away from the command before releasing the button which results in no command being initiated. I've no idea how to resolve this problem, except to adapt one's behaviour to the speed of the equipment being used.

It's a wired mouse in my case and it used to work fine just recently.

The problem might have started since updateing to Autocad 2019.1.1. (Civil 2019.1) or  after SteelSeries Engine mouse sotware recent update.

... or it's the mouse button itself starting to die off. Giving it a thought, it is the case most likely.

So it is not a Autocad problem, sorry for confusion on the board.

My problem was fixed after i uninstalled all my mouse drivers in Device Manager itself and then only installed my specific mouse driver afterwards. I also have wireless mouse (Evoluent Vertical C) and was quite a nuisance to click slower to prevent clicks from not registering. Hope this works for wired mouse.
