New Server, Same drive Letter, Xref not found

Put a new server in to replace the old one. Original server was on mapped to V: for all users.

New server which has different domain name, was mapped to V: for all users.

Xrefs are not found. But since the path to the file is the same, you have to manaully re-map each file.

Reference manager and Autocad act as if they are actually storing paths based on domain name rather than drive letter, even though it shows the drive letter in the listing.

Other posts say that mapping a server to the same drive letter is supposed to preserve xrefs. Is this no longer so?

Which version of Cad are you using?  I'm not aware of any changes to how AutoCAD handles xref paths.  One suggestion that has worked in the past, is whenever possible, use relative pathing, not absolute.  This suggestion has come up so often, Autodesk made Relative pathing the default right out of the gate starting in 2018 (although they added a system variable for those who dont want life to be easy).

That bit of information doesn't really solve your current issue. So, would it be possible for you to show some screenshots of your xref palette of an example of what you are referring to?

I need to delete this....turns out IT shorted some words in paths to save on max file name lengths, but it was subtle and I only just noticed it.

Dont know that a thread can be deleted, but it could be a good thing for someone who down the line has a similar issue, what I posted, as well as you posting what you found was the issue could eventually help out someone else.

True enough.

I push relative pathing whenever I get the chance. But we move files a lot based on their status, so Absoute or Relative doesn't work for us eventually during a project.

But our xrefs tend to move less than our project files....so absolute pathing tends to work out better.
