New layers not showing properly in the Layer Property Manager and impossible to use without restarting

Hello everyone.
When I create a new layer and give it a name (i.e Walls), it doesn't show up in the layer properties manager, if I search by typing the name of the layer (in this case Walls), the search bar shows me a "Layer 1" with the same properties of the one I created.
If i try to rename it again, it doesn't change the name.
If I try to make it current, Autocad still draws new lines on the previous layer I was working on.

Everytime i need to close and open again Autocad to see and use the layer correctly, which is pretty much annoying when I'm in that part of the work in which i need to create different new layers.

How can I solve this bug?

Thank you in advance for your help

Hello and welcome! Can you share what version of AutoCAD you are using where you see this issue?

Are you using the outdated CLASSICLAYER or the default LAYERPALETTE?

What is the LAYERDLGMODE System Variable set to 1 or 0?

Have you installed the latest updates for your AutoCAD version?

Do you, prhaps, have the Layer Manager's Filter set to only "All Used Layers"?

Then the list won't include Layers with nothing drawn on them [yet].

I'm using AutoCAD 2025, but I was having the same issue with AutoCAD 2024 as well

I'm using the LAYERPALETTE. I don't like to see the layers from the RIBBON, so I keep open the layer palette (more or less I use the same look of the Autocad for mac 2010, with layer palette and the properties on the right).

LAYERDLGMODE is set to 1.

Autocad 2025 is installed to the latest version.

I use my own filter for the layers, but the problem keeps repeating even if I remove any filter and create a new layer

Hi,

I don't know about this issue, so try different things and check out if one can change* the issue.

Same issue in 2024? But on the same PC, or?

From disable all antivirus/defender Software

to restall .net Framework

or back to ACAD:

a. Start AutoCAD in  /SAFEMODE, same issue?

b. Same issue in  a new file, based on acadiso/acad.dwt?

c. "When I create a new layer and give it a name (i.e Walls), it doesn't show up in the layer properties manager"

How can  do you create a new Layer?

Sebastian
