Need help with length of lines.

Need help with length of lines.

Ok this sounds like a dumb question, but I am new to autoCAD. In my project I am doing I have to create a shape, but the problem I have with it is that it would take up the whole page. For instance the figure is 450x200, but the space that I have to put it in is not that big. Also I have to dimension it...

What I would like to do is just scale it down to where 450 would be 4.5 and 200 would be 2, but have the dimensions show 450 and 200. Please help!

Ok I just went ahead and started drawing the lines at a scale of 100, so what 4.5 on the drawing should be 450...

Having trouble uploading the actual file so here is a screenshot

Three ideas/possibilities

a) Command: SCALE

to scale the hole drawing up (and then DIMSTYLE > global Scale Factor to 100)

b) Command: DIMSTYLE (the easiest)

to modify the actual "Standard" Style > Units > Linear Scale factor 100

c) use Layouts (and DIMSTYLE)

Based on your screen shot, are you drawing 1:1 in model space?

Normally the title block and borders would not show in model space.

Draw 1:1 in model and scale it to fit in layout with the border and title, etc.?

Just a guess.

Hi @Anonymous,

In order to attach a file, you might put it in a ZIP file first.

At any rate, it appears that you are drawing everything in Modelspace.  I suggest that you draw your model in modelspace. Then, select a layout to switch to paperspace. This is where I suggest you place your titleblock/border. Then using Mveiw, create a viewport so you can see your model. Now you can set the scale for the viewport to maximize the view of your model.

Lastly, you can dimension directly in paperspace if you like of you can do so in modelspace too.

Please let me know if you have questions on any of these steps.  I prepared a video of how my suggestions would work for you.

If you are putting your border in modelspace, it must be scaled, NOT your objects. If you are putting dimensions in modelspace then the dimscale should set the size of dimensions. Text objects in modelspace should be scaled the same factor. All objects in a drawing should not be scaled but drawn true size. Any other approach leads to many problems. As others have suggested it may be preferable to place your border in the layout
