Move layers between drawing

Hi,

I am very new to AutoCAD but am having trouble finding an answer to what I assume it a very simple problem.

I would like to move layers from one drawing to another but am going around in circles.  I'm using AutoCAD 2017 Mac.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

@Anonymous hello, just type in the comand prompt type LMAN (layer states manager) pick the layer > export > then save the layer in a folder. then open the drawing you want to transfer the layer in the command prompt type LMAN > import pick the layer you just save in a folder, the import layer will be there already. thanks

Pas,

Any time you copy past layers between files, it bring those layers in and will remain there until they are purged out, even if they are deleted.

Thanks for the reply. No luck at this stage. The layer states manager just gives me the option of adding a layer state which I type in. Then says save and close and that's it. No destination. I'm a little bit confused.

If you have no layer states set up, and want to copy a layer across without recreating it,

draw a line with the layer made (laymc) current you want to copy over to your new drawing.

Copy with base point (ie copy to clipboard) that line.

Paste it into your new drawing.

The layer the line was on, will automatically be copied across too.

Design Center is what I would use.

Or, if you want all the layers, insert the source drawing as a block and then delete the block.
