Model space issues

When drawing in model space, I create a 50' line, and it is extremely small. I zoom in as far as it will allow me to.

my scale is set at 1:1. Not sure what to do...

You can use the Zoom command and then choose Window and marquee over the area you want to zoom into .

Why don't you simply double-click the middle button of your mouse ?

When I am zoomed in all the way, my 50' line is only 1/8" long on my screen.

Your entity is far too far from 0,0.

Please, use the hamburger (bottom-right) to enable the "coordinates", then you will see.

My advice :

Run the MOVE command from a point on the object to the 0,0 coordinates (or #0,0 with your are currently using the Dynamic mode).

Then double-click on the middle button will be efficient. Zooms gonna be all'right.

I do see some peculiarities in the file you have attached here, and am also not sure how to reproduce the same effect.

My take is that the Drawing template you have started with is not a default on one. So  recommend you to follow hte provided link in this post and reset your Autocad settings and try again to draw the same 50' line.
