Model does not show in Layout

I developed a template that worked, and all i changed was some annotative settings, and saved it as template2. However, template2 will not port over the the drawing from model space to layout paperspace. I read countless help threads about the frozen or thawed viewports etc. but i still cannot get the model to show. i am at a complete loss.

Hi @tcrusch
Make sure that the missing objects have an Annotative scale set to match the annotation scale of the viewports.

It would be good to review the file and then troubleshoot.

You can send the file via PM.

Show your work: share the actual file here with all of us, I bet it is something real simple and obvious that you just missed.

Thank you guys very much for taking the time to have a look. Full disclosure, im not that familiar with viewport, or what it really does. i have a viewport layer, but i never use it. Also, the annotation might be the issue, since between my template and template2, i made a custom annotation. Im not familiar with the annotation scale. in anycase, here is the drawing that wont show in layout view. I very much appreciate the help!

Go into each viewport in each layout (aka double-click in it), then ZOOM EXTENTS: then set your viewport scale as you need it.

Is that all you needed to do? Viewports in layouts do not automagically go find your content in modelspace for you somehow, you have to go inside each viewport in each layout and find your content, position it, set the viewport scale and so on. You are in charge, you do all the tasks, the program is not going to guess and do it al for you as you already know if you used AutoCAD for more than a minute 😉

Full disclosure, I just started using AutoCAD about 2 months ago, so compared to some of you guys, yes, its been a few seconds lol. i see the file you sent back works, which is awesome! i appreciate that. This is a learning experience for me, so i have a few follow up questions. 1) what exactly is a "viewport"? is it the window in which you are working in? is the the model, layout1, layout2 tabs on the bottom? is it a layer i need to configure? 2) what do you mean exactly by setting the scale? if we use my drawing as an example, the part is only roughly 6" by 6", what kind of "scale" do you need for that? 1:1? i purchased the big thick AutoCAD 2018 book as well to read up on the program. i definitely trying to do my homework before asking questions, but some concepts i just need a little guidance on.

No worries, we all start somewhere.

1) a window on an imaginary sheet of paper that looks into your modelspace area. Consider taking a class online or in person to get you more familiar with the concept.
2) Think of drawings on paper: you decide on a scale before you draw, right? You don't just do it. Same with a viewport. Setting a viewport scale is explained here (and in any class you take) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45uNMl4rI_o

Take some introduction classes sooner rather than later.

The reason i never had to look into this in the past is because, if i start a brand new drawing in AutoCAD 2022, and anywhere on that model-space i draw a circle or whatever, of any size, and i immediately hit layout1, that layout automatically puts that circle, in full view, in the center of that "paper" with zero user input. So, when i made a new drawing, (and drew what i showed you in my file), when i hit layout and it wasn't there, you can see how i was surprised lol.

Hello, so I'm running Autocad 2024 and just recently ran into a issue with my model not showing up on my layout. I tried starting a new drawing and creating my on layers but I still cant get it to appear on my layout. Ps: I am first time student user here.

Can you share your actual DWG file here please?
