Is there any way to convince MLEADERALIGN that these text boxes are equal in height?

Can you elaborate on your desire/need please?
MLEADERALIGN has options you can access when you start the command then select those mleaders, watch the commandline then tap O for Options (perhaps your commandline is not tall enough to see it)

Select them all, and in Properties, set their Line space style to Exactly, and the boxes will snug in around them in the same way.

[I recommend a Landing gap setting, which sets the offset of the box around the text, greater than zero, or in that font your slashes and double-quote characters will extend outside their boxes, which at zero will fit the text height, allowing for possible descenders but ignoring things that extend above that.  Not to mention the improved readability with the box not coinciding with parts of characters.]
