MLEADER TEXT/MTEXT/DIMS TEXT Strange Behaviour - Font Corrupted

All,

My font has suddenly gone rogue. I use SIMPLEX font, and one day, I opened the file that I was working on and the font (MTEXT AND DIM) started behaving very oddly, In some instances, it transformed completely to ARIAL BOLD, in other instances it transformed into a combination of SIMPLEX and ARIAL BOLD. I've attached a few screenshots, hopefully to illustrate the issue in more detail. I've thoroughly browsed through the forums, and haven't found anything substantial yet.

This issue has been a really tough one to get around. Most people I have consulted have suggested re-checking "Position Z" under geometry in the Properties palette and setting it to 0. However, mine is already set at 0. Also, all my text is set to have the same properties. By all, I mean my DIMSTYLE TEXT, MLEADERSTYLE TEXT, and my STYLE TEXT. Another issue is when plotting to PDF or to an office, most of the ARIAL BOLD text does not show up, instead I end up with random letters here and there.

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated at this point.

Looks like you might have manual font overrides in place: you need to be inside the text editor to remove them if you want to test just one and confirm.

Thanks for your reply. I checked if there were any manual overrides, and yes some did have overrides. However, when I removed them for the specific DIM shown in the picture below, nothing happened.

What else could this be ?

I've also made sure that my fonts folder has all the fonts that I am using.

Hi @Anonymous,

If you are sure the overrides are gone and still seeing this occur, I have attached my Simplex and Arial fonts for you to try. This might also be a graphics card issue. I suggest that you try toggling off hardware acceleration to see if it makes a difference.

If none of this helps can you attach a sample file for me to investigate?

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

John,

Greatly appreciate the response. My workstation is running on an AMD Firepro M4000 graphics card - after turning it off(using GRAPHICSCONFIG) and rebooting AutoCAD, the fonts went back to normal. It's strange - I never thought this could be the root of the issue.

Does this mean I should NOT toggle the graphics hardware back on? I visited the AMD website and downloaded the newest driver - but I am not hesitant to toggle it back on.

Thanks again.

Hi @Anonymous,

If you have grabbed the newest driver I would certainly try turning HA back on. Worst case you find it still doesn't display things as it should and you turn it back off. 🙂

Good day John,

The issue that I've been having has resumed. As per your previous suggestion, I toggled off the Hardware Acceleration. When I toggled it back on I noticed that the issue has resumed, so I turned it back off and continued with my workflow.

Attached you will see what I am talking about - can you think of anything else that could be the issue ?

If it would help, I can send you a file for you to investigate further. It is very puzzling, I cannot seem to think of anything that I'm doing that may be causing this. Especially that my tasks pretty much utilize the same commands/tools in AutoCAD.

Hi @Anonymous,

If turning off HA corrects the problem then just leave it off. There is the possibility that either the graphics card or its driver doesn't fully comply and that is causing the issue.

The reason I wrote to you today was due to the fact that the issue is reoccurring while the Graphics Card/ Hardware Acceleration is turned off.

What do you suggest I do ?

Hi @Anonymous,

I apologize that I didn't understand that with it off you were continuing to see the problem.

Is it possible to attach a sample file? If so, please circle an area of text where you are seeing this behavior.

Based on your picture alone it appears you have multiple fonts (arial + simplex): post the DWG where you grabbed the image from if you can.

No worries at all @john.vellek I always appreciate any form of help I can get.

Here is a sample file that illustrates the issue that I'm experiencing. I've also attached an image that shows how I the file appears on my screen when in AutoCAD.

Apologies I attached the same image I had posted.

@john.vellek

@pendean

But I cannot seem to attach the dwg. file to the message thread, should it be saved to a different file format before attaching it ?

Hi @Anonymous,

A dwg should load fine but perhaps it is getting blocked on your end. You are welcome to email it to me at john.vellek@autodesk.com and I will add it to your post

I managed to get it to work.

I think I had the file opened while trying to attach it.

Thanks again.

Thre is nothing wrong with your file here.

I can't see the info in any of the posts, what is your exact AutoCAD version and Windows OS?

A guess: if you change the font for ARCH-DIM style to romans.shx, then close and reopen your file, does the problem go away?

Nothing has worked thus far.

I've tried your method - and it did not change a thing.

are you saying that you opened the sample CAD file that I provided, and you did not experience any issues with it ?

Hi @Anonymous,

Your file looked fine on my end too.

Please give me your system details by creating a NFO for me and email to me at john.vellek@autodesk.com
