MLEADER text grips box changing size by itself

I've been having an issue with the grips on multileader text. As shown in the screencast; since the last time the drawing was opened the grips on the text on the left have changed to bound well outside the area of the text itself. The mleader on the left was made using the same method as the mleader that is drawn in on the right. Is there a system variable that may be responsible for this behaviour? I don't recall this happening in Acad 2015, so it seems like a new issue to me.

I have attempted to fix the grip positions by dragging them back to the top left grip as shown, but they seem to revert back to the position noted at the beginning of the screen cast once the plan is re-opened.

You or someone changed it for you with grips editing most likely: double click the MLEADER text to get the editor to show up, make sure the ruler a the top of the editor is showing, right-click inside it, select "height" and set it to zero.

This is an MTEXT 'thing' you need to watch out for.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the reply. I am certain neither I nor someone else has grip edited the MLEADER text. I'm the only person that has worked on this project and I only ever change the width of the text via the double arrows next to the ruler in the editor. I never drag the grips to change the height, there would be no benefit since it doesn't change the fit of the text or the framing. Any other possibilities that you can think of that might cause this behaviour?

Did the fix I wrote cure the problem? find out, fix it and let's make sure it worked.

No idea boss, but in 28-years of using this program weirder things have happened.

Thanks again for the reply Dean

I've got 18 years under the belt myself, Autocad never ceases to surprise Emoticono muy feliz

As for your other question; I just had a chance to try it on one of the effected mleaders and surprisingly it does not correct the issue. I can edit the height to 0 hit OK and once the editor closes it reverts to the height it was before editing. I tried creating a new mleader in the same drawing, and it behaves "normally". However, if I grip edit the height on the newly created mleader text it behaves exactly like the other mleader.

That's the moment when the grips appear.

See the SCREENCAST

BTW - It looks like you're approaching the model thru the layout - how's that you have no frame around?

Hi BeekeeCZ,

I understand that's when the grips appear, but I never stretch down as you did in the second part of the screencast, only drag the arrows as you did in the first part. That's the problem the grips are appearing stretched down despite me never having stretched them. This happens after I save the file and reopen it.

For your question about working through the layout; I was zoomed in on that portion of the drawing the viewport boundaries are off screen. I always work through the layout as it offers greater control of the layers on the xrefs that the architect send us.

Well, I see. I've noticed that this paragraph frame, quite often is not shown as it should be. But why it bothers you so much? Isn't it just a visual thing?

Within a viewport, by the black paper color I issued that you were in maximalized window... But I see now that you've probably just changed the paper color in layout. I like that you're working like this naturally. I've tried that couple of times and this is not for me. I'm probably just feeling too claustrophobic inside of frame. Missing this tool in model space... freeze in model space tool would be fine. But I have some tools of my own to ease work with layers (especially my favorite "Apply VPFreeze state as On/Off in Model Space).

It's not a huge bother, I just find the behaviour strange and I was just wondering if I was missing a system variable that controls this or if this is a bug.

I work with a black background in both PS and MS, it's easier on my eyes. If I ever feel too constrained by the VP I just use the VPMAX and VPMIN commands. We've tried working all sorts of ways (Layer state manager, multiple copies of xrefs, etc.) but this seems to be the easiest method we've found in our office to ease the process of updating the xrefs when we receive a new one from the architect.
