While copying over customization files into AutoCAD 2021, I found that there are missing files and folders in my C:\Users\(userID)\AppData\Local\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2021\R24.0\enu folder. Below is a screen shot of the contents of 2018 compared to 2021. Am I missing something here?
I appredciate any help I can get. We are on a time crunch with our switchover as they are migrating us to a cloud server for license files and removing our old server for 2018.
TIA
Mike
So most of those files and folder are pointless to move, they will just be ignored. Are you just trying to capture your TEMPLATE folder with your TEMPLATE files in it?
Your personal customizations need to be in a folder unique to you on your PC that is NEVER buried inside a program folder that the program uses like that.
For Example:
C:\USERNAMEHERE\CUSTOMIZATIONS
OR
C:\Users\USERNAMEHERE\Documents\USERNAMEHERE
Now is a good time to move away from your troublesome older method and adopt a more common approach for users. I do this for example:
Give it a shot, post back if you get stuck somewhere.
Thank you Pendean. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was out of the office for the holiday. I only know enough to get me into trouble basically. We have a setup sheet that my whole team uses when we upgrade AutoCAD versions. This same sheet has been used for over 10 years. The only thing that changes is the version number in the file names. Here is a screen shot of the AutoCAD section of our setup instructions and what we copy from our group shared network files to our AutoCAD folders. These are basically our customization files, paperspace templates, plot styles, and such. The roaming folders in the AutoCAD folders look the same as they always have as I was copying over. The Local is the only things that changed so I wasn't sure what to do. The example you gave me, is that just for the local folders or is that for all the customization we copy over? Once I put it into a different folder, I will have to change the path in AutoCAD to find it correct?
Let me know if I am still missing something. Thank you again.
I apologize if I made that confusing with the upper portion of that screen shot. The CadPipe portion, I have completely set. The lower portion of that screen shot is where we copy over our customization folders for AutoCAD. That is the only area I am questioning. We copy over files and folders into the Local and roaming appdata folders in AutoCAD for our paperspace templates for ARCH A-E size drawings and plot styles. Those templates are loaded into the AutoCAD portion not CadPipe. I work directly with CadPipe's Technicians to get all of our customization worked through with the add-on portion.
Correct, these are their instructions, so they need to support you with that all, it's a very odd way to always leave you in their clutches and never control any of your own personal/corporate content as I outlined in my first reply.
Are you the "IT" guy or the actual end user of AutoCAD/CADpipe? You issue is more of an IT problem, aka not being able to manually find or manually copy folders from one hidden folder to another on your computer. Reach out to your IT person. Only show them the relevant part, this one
There in lies my issue. I am not an IT guy but I am basically the IT guy for our group. I am only an end user that had this stuff kind of fall into my lap when my coworker, that used to do this, left for a management position and isn't able to assist with it any longer. Our IT people know nothing about how our programs run or how they are customized. They basically do not want anything customized beyond how it is offered in our software center. Our group is not a corporate wide group. We are the only group within our corporation that I know of that still shoots/scans and designs pipe in-house. In other locations of our company, the work is farmed out to contracting Engineering companies. If we have an issue with AutoCAD loading or anything like that, the IT department will help with that, but if we have to do any re-install or reset to default, their response is, "once that is done, you can redo your customizing". We are basically on our own with anything outside of standard install with AutoCAD.
I can set up our template folders in a separate/dedicated, personalized folder on each of our PC's. I just wondered if the roaming and local "standard" folders can both be pathed to the same folder that includes our templates and plot styles.
