I don't understand.  The contents of those Layers will end up all on the same Layer, but given multiple Layers, how would AutoCAD know which  Layer they should all end up on [whether one of the source Layers or an entirely different one], if you don't tell it?

- OK, so, can that be the question in the pop-up window FROM THE SELECTION THAT I ALREADY MADE? (after selecting the layers and pressing right click and "merge layers to").....- "which  Layer they should all end up on"?...  BUT I do not need/want to see a list of ALL the layers (+1k) and spend some time finding that ONE particular layer (specially if I accidentally select a wrong one); I just want to see a list of possible "Layers they should all end up on" from my original selection (which is normally less than 5 layers)

Note: I know you are providing a valid answer (what is I currently do) BUT please note my problem is because I am using +1k layers and therefore is not funny when you need to merge layers 10 to 100 times a day 😉

It isn't possible at this time to select 2 or more elements in the drawing and merge the layers. It's a great idea though and I can see it being more useful than using the layer manager to merge layers.

Certainly it is.  That's how LAYMRG works.  If the Layer you want to merge them all into is that of one of the things already selected, then there's something on it that's there to pick on again for the second part of the command.  Or am I misunderstanding what you're describing?

From what I understand @cad is asking is to be able to select numerous elements then merge them to a layer in the same selection set. If you are in a drawing you can only select one element to merge at a time. You can't select all the elements first then be prompted for the layer you want to merge them to. For that, you need to use Layer Manager. In Layer Manager you select the layers by name, then you have to find the layer to merge them to. That can take a lot of time scrolling through 1k layers. Layer filters can help reduce the list, but may not be practical for what @cad is dealing with.

LAYMRG does allow selecting many objects and then prompts for the layer to be merged to. It also allows typing in layer names.

The OP doesn't like the way that AutoCAD requires you to select and merge layers and, judging by their responses, won't accept any other way.

Hi Nancy many thanks, that is my point. Layer filters are good ( or a search box) but they are not available in this the “merge elements to” windows/dialog
