Losing lines

Losing lines

I use HydraCAD, a sprinkler design program on top of AutoCAD. After upgrading to AutoCAD 2016 I'm having issues losing my lines when going from 3D down to plan view. Typing in the command for all on layers will not bring back my lines. When up in 3D the lines are still there but disappear when I go back down to plan view. HydraCAD says it's an AutoCAD issue and ask that I reinstall the program. After doing a clean install I'm having the same issue.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

welcome  @Anonymous.autodesk.com!

Can you upload a drawing + a screenshot that shows us which line you see in your screenshot we would not find in plan view (mark the line in the screenshot please).

I have attached the drawing, I think?? I also attached a snapshot of the drawing.  The easiest exapmle of the line I'm losing is the blue line surrounding the building. I'm losing layers that are HydraCAD layers/lines but they say it works correctly on thier end.

Hi,

>> losing my lines when going from 3D down to plan view

Your screenshot shows plan-view and it shows the blue line, so you have not lost it or how did you make the screenshot with the blue line then.

You sent us the drawing in plan-view (rotated about 90degrees, but plan to WCS-XY) ... having the blue line visible.

Maybe my understanding of "plan view" is different to yours?

Can you bring your AutoCAD to "plan-view" and create/upload again a screenshot showing us the blue lines are lost then?

Sorry, - alfred -

Hi,

One additional question, just to make sure (as I found objects like "AEC_WALL" and "AEC_DOOR" ...

>> After upgrading to AutoCAD 2016

Do you have AutoCAD 2016 or AutoCAD Architecture 2016 (look with command _ABOUT to the exact product name).

Here is a view showing the lines gone. I'm also losing sprinkler lines in  that office in the lower right of the building.

Hi,

>> I have Product Version 20.0.46.0 AutoCAD Mechanical 2016

Make sure to install updates first.
As I don't have Mechanical I'm not sure about version details, but 20.0 is AutoCAD 2015, 20.1 would be release 2016, anyway, search for updates for AutoCAD 2016 as well as for Mechanical 2016 and install them.

Well, and what did you do to lose them? Which command did you run?

In HydraCAD, to check to make sure your pipes and heads are connected and elevate to the right height, I have a command to elevate up in 3D.  When raised up into 3D I still see the lines but when I give the command to drop back to 2D, or plan view as I call it, the lines disappear.

Are the lines gone because they are "behind" the camera?

Just a passing thought.

Do I understand that correct, this is a HydraCAD command, and after this command is finished lines disappeared?

And the developer of that application tells you it's AutoCAD's fault that lines disappear after running a HydraCAD command? That would be strange ...

I'm not sure that I understand behind the camera. In the past, while working on earlier versions, certain layers would turn off but when the command was given to turn all layers back on the lines would reappear. With 2016 this doesn't correct the problem.

Tough to describe.

There are things called "clipping planes" that define the min and max of a view. If your min clipping plane is close to the camera it won't drop anything out or "cut it off", but if your min clipping plane is far out from the camera it will discard close objects from the view until you zoom back.

I think of this because you mentioned that HydraCAD "drops back to the plan view" and my thought was that it dropped down under the elevation (height) of the blue lines. Is that a better description?

Check out CLIPPING PLANES in Help.

FWIW ... I don't hold out much hope for this thought.

Good luck.

DJ

I attached a snapshot of the toolbar showing the 3D and 2D command. Yes this is a HydraCAD command. I sent them my drawing and they say it works perfectly when they raise it up and drop it back down. That's why they are saying it's an AutoCAD issue. Called them back earlier and they say they have not seen this issue.

That is not the way how I would work as application developer.

But at least I'm out as I don't have HydraCAD (well, now I know I will never buy/use that). Only people using that application can try to reproduce this with your drawing.

I guess you already tried the standard answers like "try to turn off hardware acceleration" or "try to use AutoCAD with a new Windows user account" :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

Yes when we did the reinstall of 2016 we changed the user account to ensure a clean install. I may try to download AutoCAD 2015 and see how that works for me. I appreciate your willingness help...

After you use the PURGE command, RE or REGEN command, and restart your AutoCAD, do you still have the issue?
