LIST: Angle in XY Plane = 0, why? DIMENSIONS: Duplicated and too bright?

Hi all,

This is my first post in the community!  I have been sketching remodels on the backs of napkins since 2002 and have finally enrolled myself in a course for AutoCAD.  How wonderful!  We are spending the semester creating a hotel (see attached).  I could use some support as I go along here if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

ANGLE IN XY PLANE?

My bottom exterior wall is slanted and not straight/horizontal! Now that I have xref'ed my grid into my floor plan, I notice that my bottom exterior wall is at an angle instead of straight.  When I use the LIST command on that line, I confirmed that my line is slanted (see below info).  My questions are:

1.  Why does Angle in XY Plane = 0?  What does that mean?

2.  What does the Delta mean?

LINE Layer: "A-WALL-EXTR"
Space: Model space
Handle = c81
from point, X= 0'-0" Y= 0'-0" Z= 0'-0"
to point, X= 211'-8" Y=-0'-4 5/8" Z= 0'-0"
Length = 211'-8", Angle in XY Plane = 0
Delta X = 211'-8", Delta Y = -0'-4 5/8", Delta Z = 0'-0"

DIMENSIONS DUPLICATED AND BRIGHTER GREEN ON TOP/HORIZONTAL

If you look in my attached drawing you will also note that the dimensions I added at the top are brighter green then the dimensions on the left side AND duplicated.

3.  Are my dimensions incorrect at the top?  If so what should I do to change them?

Welcome to these Forums!

I haven't opened your drawing, but about questions 1 & 2:

1.  AutoCAD measures angles with zero degrees being to the right along the X axis, and progressing counterclockwise from there.  [You can set it to do it differently, but I assume you haven't done that.]  So the angle in the XY plane is the direction it's headed from the beginning to the end.  BUT AutoCAD also lets you choose to what degree of precision you want various things displayed, in addition to in what kinds of units.  You probably have your angle display option set to round things to the nearest whole degree, under which setting yes, information displayed about a Line such as that would be rounded to 0 degrees, even though it isn't precisely to the right.  Get into the UNITS command's dialog box, and look at the angular units settings.  Tell it to display further down into arc minutes and seconds and perhaps decimals of seconds, and you'll get a different report about the angle of that Line.  If you set the linear display precision far enough down into tinier fractions, you may also get a different report on the length, with some little fraction added, since that Line will also be longer than it says, but by some tiny amount.

2.  Delta means "difference" and tells how much of one there is in each coordinate direction from [in this case] the beginning to the end of the Line.  The endpoint in the Y direction is 4-5/8" lower down [negative] than the start.  If you change the Line so that it's truly at 0 degrees, that Delta-Y number will become 0.
