Linking two dwg autocad files together

Say I have different AutoCAD drawings of the same element.

Can I link these drawings together so that, for example, when i modify the drawing that has the 'Top View', the modifications will be done in the other drawings as well?

If the other drawings are of the same thing by way of XREF'ing the one with the Top View into them, that will happen.  If you want it to be mutual [modify any of them and all the others are also modified], I don't know of a way.

Is there some reason not to just have it in one drawing with multiple Layouts/Viewports?
