The lession named "Introduction to template creation" xor "Create the AutoCAD template" should start with "How to open an existing template file".
But for beginners I prefer to go the saveas way, which is shown in the lession before: "Introduction to template creation"
Start a new drawing based on the template in question(here acad.dwt for drawings which using imperial units and not mm or m), do what you want and SaveAs! this file
as template(.dwt).
This way it isn't so easy to overwrite existng templates accidentally.
