Lines stay selected after command

I am sure this one has been discussed, but I just realized that I was trying to do 'copy with a base point' then selected all my entities and the command ended.  Now until I regen again, the linework is still highlighted (dashed).  There must be a variable to use. As far as I can tell it is with the copy with a base point command.  Copy and move don't result in still highlighted linework once the command is over.

If you're doing that by grabbing a grip among a bunch of selected things and choosing the Copy mode one way or another, then yes, things will remain selected after you have made your copy/copies [you could, after all, continue with more grip-editing on the same selection].  Hit Escape to clear the selection [twice to both end Copying and clear the selection, or once if you've ended Copying with Enter/space].
