Lines "Explode and Offset" on Copy/Paste from a different file

Hello everyone,

I'm having an issue where my DWG exported from Revit isn't copy and pasting in to another DWG file I'm working on.

1. Export view / sheet from Revit to DWG format

2. Open exported DWG file

3. Copy objects in model space

4. Open another DWG file (master)

5. Paste objects in to model space (master)

6. Some lines will paste in an "exploded" manner where they don't line up

See attachment Original for the original objects in their relative file

See attachment PastedOffset for the pasted objects in the "master" file

- Text for Grid Bubbles doesn't maintain scale

- Objects offset (levels pushed left, mullions all strange)

Also, command line shows following:

- Duplicate definition of block (Block Name Here) ignored. (x 100s of times per 'duplicate' block)
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ARCHS.SHX].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [or-ld.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ARCHSTYL.SHX].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ARCHSTYL.SHX].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [or-ld.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [archstyl.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ARCHQUIK.shx].
- Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ARCHSTYL.SHX].

I've tried copying with a base point (ctrl + shift + c) and that doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

Thanks everyone!

Hi,

>> my DWG exported from Revit isn't copy and pasting in to another DWG file

Which version of Revit?
Which version of AutoCAD?

If we can have the drawing it would help us to look into it.

>> Duplicate definition of block (Block Name Here) ignored

That is ok when you have pasted the geometry into a new/empty drawing. Otherwise all blocks from the new drawing will be presented in the version of block with the same name from the new dwg.

>> Substituting [simplex.shx] for [ARCHS.SHX]

Make sure your AutoCAD can find these missing shx files. Otherwise that could be a reason for different text representation.

Hello Alfred,

As attached are:

-1) DWG as exported from Revit (44-51 Dufferin East)

2) DWG when objects are copied from that DWG to the 'master' (Elevation Troubleshooting)

I've deleted all the other non-relevant objects in the 'master' for clarity.

Also:

- We're using Revit 2018 LT and AutoCAD 2018 LT

- Keeping the same text doesn't really matter, unless if that's the reason why the lines are pasting funny,

Thanks! I very much appreciate it.

Do this:

copy/paste from the PROBLEM file to the SOURCE file, do all the problem objects (like the mtext in the circle) automagically fix themselves? They appear to do so here, which tells me you have one block with the same name but TOTALLY DIFFERENT sizes or content in each of these files.

Thanks Dean!

You're correct, looks like the source data/blocks from Revit is changing itself to suit the existing data/blocks.

I'm sure there's a way to make it so the blocks don't do that, but for the time being I've just Brute-Forced a solution by pasting in reverse and making a new master file. I'll have to look in to the Block Manager in the future.

Yours truly,

Marco
