Line and rectangles not working properly

Hi,

I'm having these strange issues recently:

The first, it's about drawing lines on top, and from origin of another line (xline). When typing the dimension wanted to create say a step based on the guide line position, my number dissapear and the new line stays at origin, without actually drawing the distance wanted (or any) But sometimes will snap to a complete different dimension rather than the one wanted.

The rectangle issue may have something to do with the issue above, when stretching from a nod to any direction, by say 5mm, it won't change, literally ignore my dimension input. But if I take the same nod and move it without any dimension input, will change without problem

I'm using Autocad LT 2025

Thanks

Try setting 'dynmode' to 1

Or go to DSETTINGS and check if your settings are set up like this:

Hi Brock, thanks for your quick reply - the settings were like shown. Dynmode changed to 1, however both issues persisted.

A screen capture could help us understand more clearly what the issue may be.

I would check to see if you have grid snapping on

I would also check to see that your UCS is in WCS and that your view is not rotated

I would also rotate your view to the front (or select the items and look in properties) and see if any of your geometry has any unwanted Z elements

Hi,

I have checked the Z coordinates, nothing there.

UCS has been rotated and it was something I have to constantly change back to UCS World (keep changing it automatically to something else) and now just following your steps, when applying the UCS back to World, the issue dissapears for both, lines and rectangles.

I will search how to prevent ACAD to change the UCS automatically.

Thanks for your help

UPDATE

Sorry, after changing the UCS to World, I've noticed the amount to stretch a rectangle affects the outcome. If I want to move a nod by 50 or 100mm won't change it, but if I type 500mm will change the size of the rectangle. See attached images, the square made withe rectangle tool won't change unless is larger than 50mm or smaller dims.

Holding down the shift and using the middle mouse wheel pan will cause it to rotate. So, if you are working really quickly or have a sticky shift key, it could be part of the problem.

Do you have running Object Snap modes on?  If the location resulting from the distance you give it is within the Osnap aperture, it will snap to some appropriate place, which could be the same ENDpoint you started from.  That could explain why it fails at small distances but works at large distances where you get beyond Osnap's reach with the new location.  Also check your APERTURE System Variable setting.

hmmm that's interesting... is this just in one drawing or all drawings?

All of them. If I have a line and I want to use it as a guide to draw a shorter line over, lines starting at 500mm will appear, otherwise the line stays at the end of that original line and does not move, and the measurement in the command line dissapears. Changed the APERTURE but that only created some discomfort when drawing as it "hunts" more for places to snap on to.

I don't think you want it hunting for things to snap to -- that's probably the cause of the trouble, and would exactly explain why it works at larger stretch distances than at smaller ones, if you have the "Priority for Coordinate Data Entry" option set for "Running object snap" (see below).  Try setting that to "Keyboard entry" instead, or simply with Osnap off.

Not sure if this will help but maybe worth a try…in the middle of the LINE command or grip edit stretch, try typing NON Enter.

This will suppress all snaps for the current selection only.  Snap settings are restored when the action is completed.

If it works for your situation, it can be used in a CUI macro in the Command and Grip Cursor Short Cut Menus, or a peripheral macro on mouse, etc.
