Layout tab preview thumbs annoy

Note! This post does NOT apply to FILE PREVIEW preview thumbs!!!

Hi!

I find LAYOUT tab preview thumbs really annoying. I want to get rid of them and need help to do so. It seems to be impossible after reading posts about the problem. It often is mistaken for a filetab preview issue, which it isn't.

Those preview thumb do not work anyhow so I don't see the point with them. They all show the first layout. After a few savings they get stock in time and history totally. If they show anything.

So much else is optional in autocad. Why not this annoying bug?

Is there anybody that has knowledge of programming enough to make this change that Autodesk is not competent to do themselves?

I use Autocad 2016 with Autoplant plugin.

Yeah, I agree.

But if he really want to get rid off the preview thumb. He needs someone to customize the cad interface for him, like a programmer or software developer.

Such harsh words are totally inaccurate and unnecessary.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

They show all set/defined/active layouts here, always have, only time it's black is in the layout is not initialized (which you should delete) or your video card is slow to display.

A feature you do not like is not a BUG, a bug is a software problem that we all find crippling and requires a weird workaround.

The OP does not want LAYOUT tab previews.

Not Files Tab previews at the top of the program window, just the LAYOUT tabs previews at the bottom of the program window.

I presume that something isn't working is a bug. I attach some pictures of my thumbs. I have one layout open and go mouse over some layout tabs including active layout.

But this is working, just not in the way you expect it to. I'm not sure when the thumbnail images are generated but they are not meant to be a live representation of the layout, just a quick reference. If you can open a file without them being a screen shot of the current state of the layout before any edits, then yeah, it might be broken.

No. No. No.

I repeat.

Layout tabs, not file tabs.

There is a difference. Layout tabs are those where you change layout. File tabs are those where you change files. I am using Autocad in single file mode (SDI) because of Autoplant. Autopland is not working properly in multiple file mode.

SDI =

Controls whether AutoCAD runs in single- or multiple-document interface. Helps third-party developers update applications to work smoothly with the AutoCAD multiple-drawing mode.

0 Turns on multiple-drawing interface.
1 Turns off multiple-drawing interface.
2 (Read-only) Multiple-drawing interface is disabled because AutoCAD has loaded an application that does not support multiple drawings. SDI setting 2 is not saved.
3 (Read-only) Multiple-drawing interface is disabled because the user has set SDI to 1 and AutoCAD has loaded an application that does not support multiple drawings. (SDI was set to 1 before the application was loaded.) SDI setting 3 is not saved.

If SDI is set to 3, AutoCAD switches it back to 1 when the application that doesn't support multiple drawings is unloaded.

So, I have no use of file tabs, thank you! 🙂

Sorry.

The issue here was that I hoped they at least could show the right layout. But they don't. They show a very old version of layou 1 (the first layout I grated i that drawing.

I would very much for them to work properly. If it is impossible to solve this, please say so.

And, please. There's a difference between file tabs and layout tabs.

I have attached views of my layout tabs in an earlier reply an as you can see the thumb does not have any resemblance to the layout whatsoever.

And, as you also can see, I have a large model with a lot of layouts.

It is possible that Autocad can only show a few layout thumbs right. In that case it is annoying anyhow.

Kindly

Since you didn't say anything about what I suggested about them being correct when you first open a file, I'm going to assume that you tried it and it did work. I did a little experimenting and they worked as I was creating new ones, for the most part. There were some minor glitches that resolved themselves. I didn't take the time to check but I would assume that changes to model space that show in a viewport that is not on the current tab to require a regen before the changes would appear.

They are not perfect and maybe you are expecting too much from them. Until one of those changes, sorry but you will have to continue being annoyed if it bothers you that much.

There is a difference. Layout tabs are those where you change layout. File tabs are those where you change files

I know you want to change the layout tab function but hear me out, you can use file tabs to change to different layouts, which is what it sounds like what you are after.  Set  FILETABPREVIEW to 0, now hover over the file tab and a list of layouts is shown, pick which one is desired.
