Layers appear as the wrong color on the palette

I have a problem with the layer colors appearing black in the palette when they are actually white (see attachment below). I need to change them back because I use this computer for demonstrations for my students. Suggestions?

I believe that what you are asking refers to the assigned Layer Color appearing opposite in the Layers Panel of the Ribbon from what is shown in the Layer Properties Manager.

I've never seen this behavior so I am interested in how it occurs.  Be aware that "White" as a set color in AutoCAD Model Space is actually Black in Paper Space (you likely know this).  I thought the problem may have been due to you working in a maximized viewport from Paper Space but I tried that and did not get the behavior you show in your screen capture.

I also looked in the settings for the Layer Properties Manager, which @Patchy recommended, but the settings he showed are not present in my 2019 ACAD.  Also, he displayed the CLASSICLAYER dialog box.  Regardless of the modern LPM or the legacy LPM, the settings dialog is the same and does not appear as he showed.

Question remains... why is color on Layers Panel list opposite from LPM?

I'll keep poking around.

Cheers,

Blaine

I fixed it.

Yesterday I was working on a drawing that need a light background in model
space. I changed it from black to a light color (beige-ish), as I have done
before over the years. When I opened AutoCAD this morning, I realized that
I had not changed it back. When I changed it back, that is when the problem
occurred. I closed the program completely and reopened the drawing that had
the light colored background. I went to Options and clicked on restore
Classic colors. This corrected on all drawings.

I've been an AutoCAD user since 1985 and this is the first time I have
ever seen this.
Thanks to everyone for helping.
