Layer Manager checkbox

Hi guys,

A quick one today (he says, jinxing himself)

I'm in the layer manager and notice the small parallelogram shapes for the active layer, etc.  Am I right in thinking these are 2 different colours, one blue and the other grey in colour?  And if so, what's the relevance/function therein?

Thanks,

Curious guy

Hi,

Grey color means that nothing is currently stored on that layer, the layer can be deleted (purged).

Blue means the layer is in use.

The evaluation of that icon needs time, so a lot of users disable this evaluation (don't need the different colors, so AutoCAD does not need to relook every time, with every action) and have set the system variable SHOWLAYERUSAGE to 0 (>>>details<<<).

I'm finding objects on both blue layers and grey ones...

Do I need to change a system variable or checkbox or something?

Hi,

>> I'm finding objects on both blue layers and grey ones...

Hardly to believe ... please upload the drawing and show a screenshot so I can see which layer is listed as grey, but used in your drawing.

Hi,

I don't see any unused layer (well, layer 0 is grey, but that layer can't be deleted from an AutoCAD file ... I should have said in my prev. post that layer 0 can't be deleted 😉 ).

Hi Mark,

Are you referring to xref layers? They get shown slightly differently than the layers in the current drawing.

Here is a nice article that shows the features and icons in the Layer Properties Manager.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Hey John,

There are no X-Refs in this drawing.

Hi,

>> Odd, I'm showing this.

Which graphic card do you have? In case you do have an Intel GC everything can happen with icons in the layer dialog ... everything up to disappearing.

@john.vellek no, no XRef's attached

Hi Mark, I don't see this when I open drawing either. Perhaps this is related to your graphics card as @Alfred.NESWADBA mentioned.

If you log on as a different user do you still see this behavior?
