LAYER display too short

LAYER display too short

We're using Release 2018.

At the top, above the Ribbon is where our LAYER display is located.

It's way to short. Shows only 16 characters.

We didn't have this short display when we were using Release 2005.

When we highlight an object to find out which layer it is on, the display is too short.

We then have to go to Properties.

But even that is too short to show the whole layer name.

We have to move the cursor over the layer name to see the whole name.

Way too many steps to solve a problem that wasn't in the older AutoCAD.

Is there any way to lengthen the display?

Hi @Anonymous,

You can adjust the minimum width ( I set mine to 400  in this screen shot)

Use CUI to edit the Layer Combo Control

Thanks for your quick reply.

That helps in the Home, Layers display, but that helps only if the "Home" tab is active.

At the very top of the display, at the left, there is the AutoCAD red icon.

Just to the right, we have the "Workplace" display, then the "Layer" display.

This remains too short.

We get this LAYERS display active by clicking on the down-arrow-with-line-above that is just to the left of the "Autodesk AutoCAD 2018 "Active File name".

Any ideas about making this display longer than 16 characters?

Hi,

>> We get this LAYERS display active by clicking on the down-arrow-with-line-above

Don't use that option, this type of layer-combo, placed in the "quick-access-toolbar" can't be changed in it's with.

Please look to the video here where I showed how to get a layer combo in the quick-access-toolbar and change it's width then.

Your video results in what I am looking for, but, it is too fast and too blurry.

Is there an audio? I don't hear anything.

I try to stop the video and go a step at a time, but, I don't know which Ribbon you're on. Too blurry.

Anyway of stepping thru it?

Hi,

>> but, it is too fast and too blurry

YouTube needs a bit to be able to stream in full performance and so in high res.

You should see it clear when you step back to the start a few times (and to make it more easy I also attached the file now to the post)

>> Is there an audio?

Sorry no, but I guess as I'm not a native English speaker it's better you don't hear my broken English :cara_guiñando_un_ojo:

>> I don't know which Ribbon you're on

You need to see the layer-combo in the ribbon ==> there do a right-click and in the context menu use option "Add to quick access toolbar"

Then I started command _CUI to modify the width of the layer-combo in the quick access toolbar.

I'm short on time this morning. Will get back on it next week.

In 15 minutes, the Office is taking me out to lunch for my 67th Birthday, which was last Tuesday.

I like your dog which is in your photo.

Those 2 kids in my photo are my Great-Grand-kids; now 9 and 7 years old. Time flies.

Hi @Anonymous,

Happy Birthday!

I made a video too to show how I did the same thing as @Alfred.NESWADBA.  Maybe mine is easier to see. I hope it works for you.
