Hello,
I am attempting to create a planar spiral. And I've run into problems when trying to scale to smaller tighter spirals.
Above shows the sequence I am attempting to use to create this structure. A) I simply use the helix tool, and create a planar spiral with an inner, outer radius, number of turns, and zero height. B) Using the offset tool, I define what will be a line width. C) join the ends with lines, and unite everything with the join command. That structure exports nicely and is exactly what I need to do.
However, when i try that procedure on the coil I need to produce, a much smaller and tighter wound spiral, the offset command doesn't work well. I perform A and B the same. I create the spiral with a 50um inner radius, 1.65mm outer radius, 80 turns, and zero height. Use the offset command to define the line width. The green box shows the center of the spiral where physically clicked the offset command. As you traverse the spiral, the offset begins to drift pretty badly. The red box shows the end of the spiral, where the offset is basically on top of the original spiral.
Is there a better way of doing this? I tried the flattening command as well, that just made the spiral less precise, and ultimately made the offset worse. Is there a way to increase the precision of the drawn spiral?
Thanks in advance,
Sami
