Key under escape key switches AutoCAD to a different mode

I'm a drafter who always has his hand on the keyboard when drawing and always spam the escape key whenever I want to quit a command or when something happens I don't like (I know, I know).

Now it sometimes happens that instead of the escape key, my fat fingers press the key right under it, the `~ key (Acute, back quote, grave, grave accent, left quote, open quote, or a push.). 

Whenever this happens, AutoCAD switches to another mode or something, that makes it skip parts of some commands and for commands like Move, it automatically takes 0,0,0 as basepoint, and asks for displacement.

The only way I know to resolve this, is to restart AutoCAD, very annoying when you have multiple drawings open. 

So my question is: Does anyone know a way to stop Autocad from switching to this mode, disable that `~ key or a command to switch back to normal behaviour?

That key does not do anything for me. Can you find out what is happening by spamming slowly and watching the command line?

yeah, just the ` gets typed in command line and nothing more seems to happen, you notice it at the next command.

I've attached a screenshot of the command line.

Explanation:

Pink: In a new drawing, I draw a line, then cancel Line command.

Then I start the move command, select the line, press space, click where I want the basepoint, and then the displacement. Just like Move command should work. Nothing wrong here.

Green: Now I press the `~ key, I notice the error and cancel using escape. 

Blue: I accidentally clicked somewhere, starting the selection box, I didn't select anything though. I start the move command again, but this time it just skips the "Select objects:" part like when you press spacebar (wich I didn't). The move command is now ended. 

Orange: Now I select the line, then start the move command, it immediately takes 0,0,0 as basepoint and wants me to specify displacement. 

I hope this helps to understand the problem.

By the way, this problem exists as long as I can remember, in multiple AutoCAD versions. I'm now using AutoCAD 2021, R.47.0.0

It doesn't behave as you describe for me.  The quoted part above suggests a possibility:  that you have a faulty space bar that [at least sometimes] registers twice with one pressing.  Try a different keyboard if you can.

It's not, it's with at least 4 different keyboards. And it only happens after I pressed the `~ key, in AutoCAD, when it gets registered by command line. Just yet I accidentally pressed it in Attribute Edit window, and AutoCAD kept working fine.

Like I said, it's with multiple AutoCAD versions, with multiple keyboards, on multiple systems, accross multiple Windows 10 versions and installations.

I would try to adjust INPUTSEARCHOPTIONS - turn off all what you don't actively use... possibly increase the delay time.

BTW you can create your own keyboard layout without that key - google MSKLC

MSKLC did the trick for me. I disabled the key entirely, didn't use it anyway.

[Then I hope you don't plan to get into customizations using AutoLisp code.  There are uses for the tilde ~ and reverse-apostrophe ` characters in certain AutoLisp functions, so you could need that key.]
