Issues with saving autocad documents

Users in remote offices are able to work for a seemingly random amount of time on a drawing. At some point, when you save, the drawing becomes read-only and you are unable to save the drawing (either Qsave or normal save). You are forced to Save As a different name, then close AutoCAD, rename the drawing, and then continue. The error that appears is:

Error: "Unable to save to drawing <path>\<drawingname>.dwg, Drawing saved to <path>\<Filename>.tmp" as it is being accessed by another session."

We have monitored the NAS these files are being saved to, and have noticed no system issues with cpu/ram and disk

I would look at the connection between the offices....Something is getting out of sync.

My first instinct is the remote location has lost internet connectivity with the server while the user was accessing the drawing. Then, the server still has the drawing "checked out" when the same user tries to save.

NAS.  First thing to remember is that AutoCAD does not support NAS devices.

Second thing is exactly where is the NAS?  local to the remote office?  or in your shop and remote to the remote office?

Thirds thing  is are any of the remoie users connected to Dropbox or Google Drive?  Dropbox has a fix, but AFAIK, Google has not.

What is your AutoCAD version?

I am using 2014. Our working drawing files are located in hard drive, because we are forced to use Vault.

I do have similar experience but this is not happen to all files.

The trick is I have to click "Qsave" or "Save" twice then the drawing will be saved as expected.

All these drawing files have been checked out from Vault when happening.
