isolate objects (not layers) - visibility of hidden objects

Hello everybody!

Second, here is my question:

When I isolate objects (not layers), the "other" objects just vanish (they aren't even faded in the background, just gone).

Is this AutoCAD's normal behavior? Or is there a system variable controlling this?

Yes it's Normal , all the objects from the drawing will disappear leaving only drawing objects which you have selected. BUT if you want to make a Layer isolation with fade option , you can use LAYISO command with changing settings . 

Command: LAYISO
Current setting: Hide layers, Viewports=Vpfreeze

Select objects on the layer(s) to be isolated or [Settings]: s
Enter setting for layers not isolated [Off/Lock and fade] <Off>:

When you isolate selected objects, the selected objects remain visible while other objects, the unselected ones, are turned off or become hidden. The hide process is not an option. There is no variable that controls this hide behavior. 

When you isolate a layer (LAYISO) you have the option to either (a) turn off or (b) lock and fade the non-isolated layers. These options are accessible through the LAYISO settings.

Yes Its Absolutely Normal, When we isolate the selected objects, than the selected objects remain visible in model while other objects, means the unselected ones, are turned off or become hidden. You can Unhide i.e. unisolate them also by "End object isoltion" Option

I know about LAYISO settings (they can also be controlled on the ribbon).

But what about ISOLATE? There seems to be no such option for ISOLATE, am I right?

Since I am working on a big drawing with thousands of survey points and lines, I often need to hide a portion to be able to focus on the part, that I am currently drawing, which can be (and mostly is) on different layers (that's why I use object isolation instead of layer isolation).

Are there any other ways?

Sorry, no. Isolate Selected Objects doesn't have any fade options. Isolate selected objects will result in HIDE so all objects that are not selected will be hidden and not faded.

The only option I can think of is to create an xref of your current drawing. Bring in the Xref and put it on a dedicated layer (a layer totally devoted to just the Xref). Turn the xref layer ON or OFF as needed.

When you perform isolate selected objects, be sure to turn ON the Xref, then select the Xref AND the objects you wish to isolate. Since Xrefs have a fade option, you can get the fade effect you want so badly.
