Is it possible to change the binding of "remove from selection" from shift+click (default) to something else (such as alt+click)?

The problem I am running into is as follows:

I find the multi-grip editing of polylines to be very useful. However, I often find myself in a scenario where I am shift+click selecting grips to edit, only to accidentally shift+click the polyline itself, removing any previously selected grips that were on that polyline from the selection set.

I figured I could solve this problem by removing/changing the binding of "remove from selection" to something else, so that shift+click didn't serve as both the way to select multiple grips AND to remove an object from a selection set.

I tried to see if I could change this in the Customize User Interface window, but I was unable to recognize such an option (I am not very well versed in making changes in Customize User Interface, though  😇)

I would think that the answer is no.

Just curious... I can hardly think of any functionality connected with multi-grips selection. So what useful functionality you have in mind?

Anyway, if you use that a lot I would consider increasing the size of grips.

That's a bummer ☹️

I only just started using multi-grip editing about a month ago (I didn't know it was a feature before then), but one example of how I have used it is to make adjustments to polyline contours of a proposed grading. I'm sure that in some of these instances I could achieve the same result through something like STRETCH, but I've found multi-grip editing to be easier to use in comparison.

There seems to be limitless potential for customization in AutoCAD. I assumed that it would surely be possible to change the binding for an action as fundamental as deselect. Oh well.

Anyway, thanks for your response!

I thought that I know ACAD quite well but... I would really love to see your workflow what useful feature you're talking about. The only thing I know is that you can select the polyline segment and remove it. No other function taking some benefit of selected segment I've never found and always thought that it has a potential which reminds wasted.

So would you, or anyone who knows,  point me to some video or would you record some to see what you are actually doing with these grips?

SCREENCAST  is good tool for that 😉 thx.

"I assumed that it would surely be possible to change the binding for an action as fundamental as deselect."

It is perhaps because they are so "fundamental" that they cannot be changed.

I think in the case of select and de-select, these are "Button 1" (left mouse button) actions. As far as I can tell, looking in the CUI editor, you can find "roughed in plumbing" for Buttons 2 thru 8, but there is no ability to customize "Button 1" actions.

If I accidentally click any part of the polyline that is not a grip, it will deselect everything, and I will have to start over.

Good point.

Maybe I can change the binding to toggle grips from shift+mouse1 to alt+mouse1?

Give it a shot.

And if it works, then give yourself credit.

Thank you! Didn't know that such edits are possible.

Although, I would definitely do that using the STRETCH command.

I've tried mimic your workflow in comparison to the stretch command... see yourself HERE

Also, I'll do use grips, I would make them bigger. You might set let say GS alias for GRIPSIZE to make be able to toggle the size quickly.
