Internet proxy blocking application

Hello.  We use an internet proxy and it's now being enforced and causing AutoCad 2016 to not open.  If we disable the proxy, it works fine.  The following sites were whitelisted per a support article found on the site, but the application still will not open with the proxy enabled.  Our proxy does not require the wild card, so those were removed when whitelisting.  When the proxy is enabled, and we open the application, it says Loading in the bottom left hand corner, then a few things whiz by quickly, and the app just closes down.  We don't receive any error messages or pop ups, it just closed.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for the reply John.  I'm going to check again and will let you know.  Sorry for the delay, the email notifications were hung up in our spam filter.

Thanks,
Jason

Hi John.  This did not work for me.  I've made multiple changes to our proxy, and eventually whitelisted all the sites listed in the KB https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Subscription-Licensing-P..., but it fails every time when it gets to License Check.  I submitted an error report today with my email associated to the submission, and I've attached a Word doc with all the sites I've whitelisted, and the two different Abort messages I received.  Both say "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Acces Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at", and there are two different results, ea456cfch, or ecbc6cfch.  I do not have a license for this application so I was not able to submit a ticket for this issue, but we have purchased multiple copies of the application for our company.  I know it's our proxy because as soon as I disable it, the app works fine, but whitelisting all these sites did not resolve the issue.  Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jason

Hi @Anonymous,

What kind of proxy is in place?  I will do some questioning and research on my end to see if I can find any more specifics for you.

We're using Zscaler for our proxy.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have checked with the team and they have requested some mini DMP files using tools such as procdump https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procdump.

The other option would be for the user to use a tool such as Fiddler (https://www.telerik.com/fiddler) to look at the http calls made by AutoCAD.

Can you do either of these and you can send the results to me at john.vellek@autodesk.com

Hi Jason,

Do these systems by chance have Google Chrome installed?  I recently discovered an issue with PCs with AutoCAD & Chrome. Wonder if it is the same thing.

Hi Brian,

I saw your post on Google Chrome being installed and I am not yet convinced that is really the culprit. Even if you do not have Chrome installed, AutoCAD uses the Chrome engine for some services.

I am leaning to the Autodesk Desktop App using the BITS service to look for updates but that is just a guess. I did forward your post to the development team to investigate.

Hi John,

Thank you for passing that along.  I did remove AutoDesk desktop and that did not work.  I also uninstalled the A360 application, my security application, etc.  I have a list of about 150 other things that I did and the only thing that worked was in my previous post.  I am now 23 for 10 on this working:)  I originally only had 10 employees saying they had this issue but after looking through the temp folder on all 183 machines that have both Google Chrome and IDSP 2018 installed, others had the issue as well.  Doing my steps resolved them.

There is defiantly a license check going on with C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\CLM\V5\MSVC14\cliccore\acWebBrowesr.exe.  That is the Chromium task that shows up which is the open-source version of Google Chrome that Autodesk is using.  I think the license check traffic is going to 23.202.224.225 which is an Akamai server or 34.238.184.14 which is AWS.  Actually, there are a bunch hitting Akamai which I know Autodesk uses for updates.  I did save the full log if you think that would help.  What is interesting is with that BITS folder in place, that traffic didn't show.

Hopefully this helps the original poster as well.  You never know until you try.  I just know I wish I would've found a post that solve my issue before I wasted well over a week of my time getting AutoCAD to boot.

Hi John.  Would a wireshark capture work?  That I already have, but I must admit, I'm not very familiar at reading these calls.

Yes, we do have Chrome installed.  I do know that our issue is related to our internet proxy as the application opens fine when I disable the proxy.  I did whitelist all the sites listed in the AutoCAD knowledge base article for this, but we're still having a problem when the proxy is enabled.

Could you try disabling the Background Internet Transfer Service and restarting the PC to see if it comes up?  With it working with the Proxy disabled it is a long shot however BITS is very complex.  It almost seemed like the license check went to our internal PCs rather than the Internet when BITS was enabled.

HI @Anonymous,

While you are trying to capture the DMP file that we discussed in email, it appears that the OGS Certification Utility might be at fault.  The team is looking into this but I also found this article that does seem pertinent.
