INSTALLING ADD-ONS TO AUTOCAD 2024

Hello everyone, I have a question that one would think there would be 10,000 YouTube videos on, but I cannot find one! how in the world do you install a plugin on AutoCAD? I can draw fairly decent but I have searched, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to install them into AutoCAD!

The plug-in author/creator is the source to provide you with that information.

But then again, what are you calling a "plug-in"? perhaps your generic terminology is what is leading you nowhere fast. Let us know, please be very specific (plugin name, source you got it from etc.), avoid being generic.

There are very different plugins, macros and scripts. If the developer has not provided an installer, then it is usually possible to place the plugin files in any folder and then set autorun to the plugin's main executable file. It's not exactly an easy job. Therefore, Autodesk has provided special folders where AutoCAD itself is constantly looking for new plug-ins and sets up autorun itself. To do this, plugins must be in a special way ofromleny in the "bundle" folder. You can read more here. 

For example, the A>V>C> plugins come with an installer that does everything by itself. But you can download them as an archive and unpack them into the correct folder. Details here.

I downloaded a steel library add-on/plug-in to my computer. I open AutoCAD and hit the apploader command and at this point I have no idea to continue! I cannot find any information on how I install from this point. I open the contents box and I cannot figure out what to do at the moment!

i call them plugins but I believe AutoCAD call them add-ons.

Hello @eddiePVXGJ 

It's a plugin. You can just double click on this .exe file after downloading to install the plugin. After that close the AutoCAD and reopen.

You need to use APPLOAD to load any lisp routines 🙂

also notice on the right column on the app site that AutoCAD 2024 is not listed as compatible/supported:

THAT HAS TO BE THE REASON . IT WILL INSTALL ON DESKTOP BUT WILL NOT GIVE ME A TAB IN AUTOCAD.
