Inserting a JPEG into a DWG

I liked how I typed "inserting a raster image" for a subject and it had a drop down similar subject with a link towards a post and solution such as using the XREF command which allows you to insert an image such as a JPEG into a DWG.  I see the new 2016 AutoCAD student version doesn't have the Classic AutoCAD and option of inserting a raster image but the XREF command worked well.

Thanks!

You can get a Classic Setup with your 2016 if you're interested.

Thanks, if I can find another reason to get the AutoCAD Classic I'll inquire more, but I just needed it to insert a raster image.  I like how your community board answered my question automatically.

Issue:
You want to insert a raster image into a DWG file so that there is no need for an external image file.

Solution

If you embed a raster image in a DWG file as an OLE object, the image will be saved completely within the DWG file. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the raster image in an image editing application, such as Microsoft® Paint.
  2. Click Edit menu > Select All, or press CTRL+A.
  3. Click Edit menu > Copy, or press CTRL+C.
  4. In AutoCAD, click Edit menu > Paste Special.
  5. In the Paste Special dialog box, select the options Paste and Picture (Metafile) and then click OK.
  6. Place the image in the drawing.

Yes good old copy and paste works also for images such as paint's .png or .bmp inserting into a .dwg.  I learned that the XREF command allows me to insert a Solid Works file saved as a .jpg into a .dwg.  Thanks!
