increase quality of stl for 3d printer

Hi,

I have created a solid which looks like a portion of a cylinder shell. Then I changes Facetres to 10 and I exported to stl. And I sent the file to a 3d printer service company. They said the quality is too low. I asked them to print anyway and the result was not acceptable.

What else could I have done to increase the quality? Should I have used mesh commands or something? I am not very familiar with meshing.

10 is the maximum value for facetres.  To see the tesselation results for various values of facetres set the visualstyle to 2D wireframe and give the hide command.

If you want to approximate a cylinder with smaller faces you might try using the polygon command to create a "circle" and then extrude it.  For example, set the number of sides to 100 for the polygon and compare it to the equivalent cylinder.  The image below shows a cylinder on the left with facetres set to 10 and an extruded 100 sided polygon on the right.
