Inconsistent Publish to PDF from SSM

Hi, I'm trying to troubleshoot an on-again off-again issue I have when publishing from a sheet set. Sometimes I'll publish something to PDF, and in checking the PDF I'll notice I forgot to toggle a layer or need to add something. When I make the changes in my drawing and publish again, often the new PDF does not capture any of the changes.

I can't seem to reliably reproduce this problem. Usually, the first time I publish from the SSM, everything works fine. It's often subsequent publishing that fails to update. The workaround I've been using is to just launch the publish command outside of the SSM, but since we are usually pushing out a handful of sheets out of many from one file it means I have to manually edit the publish list every single time.

Even more confusing, this issue seems to reset if I restart my computer, and, I can publish from the SSM one time without issue before the problem occurs again. Sometimes I won't see the problem at all on a given day.

We may not be able to as well then.

Perhaps you forgot to QSAVE that DWG file before publishing again? Or you edited the incorrect DWG file or Layout?

That is very odd indeed: does anyone else in your office have these issues with your files and SSM too?

I definitely save often, but I can't be sure I've qsaved before every publish. I will try to make sure I do this. However, this has me thinking about whether or not the problem is related to the part of our title block that is saved as an xref DWG. Most of the time when I see this problem occur, I've recently made changes to that xref. It's not likely that I would confuse the two because one is literally just a table, but I will try consolidating those two drawings and see if that solves the issue.

I will try and see if they can reproduce the issue, however the problem has persisted since before I was moved onto a new workstation.

Thank you for your help, I will make some changes and update when I see the issue again.

Indeed, XREFs need to be reloaded after editing if that affects your intent: ensure you are not fighting VISRETAIN settings in the top file.

I look forward to any additional discoveries you might run across.

It's hard to believe I could overlook something as simple as qsave, but this indeed appears to have been the problem. Thank you very much for your help identifying the issue 🙂
