We get these drawing without page setup and cannot understand why the import feature does not allow importing page setup as it implies.

Welcome to the Forums

It's because you are working in MODELSPACE which is the real world. You need to set up some LAYOUT tabs and then you can import pagesetups

PUBLISH RULE OF THUMB:
1. Launch Publish from a drawing that is not part of the publish set, we use drawing1 which I have config'ed to use our template file to create.
2. Bring in all the drawings/tabs to be published.
3. Import the pagesetup desired from the template file.
4. Works best with Layouts, no modelspace.

If I'm getting this right I can do page setup and plot from a single MODELSPACE drawing but AutoCAD does not allow the export/import of those settings into another (or multiple) MODELSPACE - only LAYOUTSPACE. Now is that a flaw or by design and why would Autodesk show a capability that does not work in thier software - see below import is a selectable option for model space;

Right click on the model space tab and select page setup manager. This is where you can import model space page setups.

Most people use paper space to plot from because that is where your sheet with a titleblock is managed from.

I trying to solve the problem of having to open hundreds of files one by one just to plot them. Basically I want to batch plot model space drawings without opening each drawing.

Thanks

I plot from model space all the time and importing setups works just fine. You can only import a setup that was created for model space. Also in the publish dialog when you import make sure all your drawings in the list are highlighted first or the import will not apply. (you can use CTRL + A to quickly get them)

I tried doing exactly what you described but I'm getting different results. For me importing page setup seem to only work in layout space and not model space even with model space created page setup. What version of AutoCAD are you running - I'm using 2015.

Thanks

I have 2011, 2014 and 2016. It works the same in all three so I would think 2015 would work too, but I don't have it handy to check.

My files originate from SDS-2 CAD program so they are very generic - unformatted Model space and Layout 1 & Layout 2 paper space tabs. I'll attached one of the file for you to try and let me know if you have success with it

Thanks

I was able to publish to PDF with no problems in 2014. I imported the page setup from the attached drawing. See if you can print using the setup imported from it.

Thanks a bunch - I took your template and added page setup for my plotter and was able to plot without opening the drawings. I had previously created what I believed a model space page setup but I guess I was missing something. Thanks again - you saved us from going the customization route.
