Is it possible to import or open a TIN file in Vanilla AutoCAD 2018?

I have tried TINSERT which took me nowhere unless I am missing something.

Hi,

You mean a triangulated surface file? Then you need AutoCAD Civil 3D, Vanilla AutoCAD can't import it.

If you mean something else then please let us know what the content of the file is, the software which created that file and maybe best: upload the file so we can test it.

Hi,

I don't know if there exist any plugins which can do that (as I have Civil3D). But you might search >>>here<<<.

If it' only a one time job than you can upload your TIN file here and I create import it with Civil 3D, the questions I have then:

  • What do you need ... just triangles?
  • Which version of AutoCAD do you have.

There are various creators of a .TIN file, I can think of (3) off the top of my head.  For example if there is a companion .PTS file, it's an old Land Desktop surface.  If it's possible, zip and post your file(s) and we can tell more about it.

I agree with everyone else.  You cannot natively bring a tin into Vanilla Autocad without the help of 3rd party software or a vertical application.

Having a sample file would make it easier for us to advise you what might be the best option for getting the data into the drawing you need.

Make sure you throw that the right way.  Check with the source of the TIN file for the name of the application that created it, then make sure the application or add-on you acquire will definitely read the file (unless it's the same application that created it of course).
