Import Custom Settings Unsuccessful

Hello all,

The IT department needed to reload my computer late last week and in preparation for it, I backed up my settings.

Of course now I go to re-import those settings and keep receiving an error saying, "This is not an this is not an AutoCAD 2022 - English migration package."

When I try to open the zip file, Windows just says, "Windows cannot open the folder."

I tried a reboot which did not help.  Am I out of luck on this one?  The zip file is almost 12MB.

Thanks,

Mike

Forgive me, but you are presenting a partial story with no background. Can you help fill in the gaps:

1) Was the original software you used to have (the source of the backup) actually "AutoCAD 2022 - English" ? From the error message alone, the answer would be NO.

The error message indicates you used to use a different variant or year version. Nothing more.

2) Ask your IT about your old-software-backup, did it by chance only reside on the same PC as the one they did all the work in, or was it copied somewhere more safe and secure?

3) Since many here have "AutoCAD 2022 - English" installed here, you are welcome to share your settings backup for someone here to try too to confirm if the ZIP is valid or not.

NOTE: If the ZIP file is corrupt, then you may not be able to recover your custom settings. Do you have another machine or location where some of your custom settings/files are stored?

Not sure why IT needs to reload your computer. Was there some software corruption which resulted in the need for this?  If there were problems with software such as your AutoCAD then even with a successful migration you could have brought the same issues over. Now if your IT had at one time taken an image capture of your system then a redeployment of that image would have retained all your settings including AutoCAD. As for not being able to open the migrated zip file that definitely sounds like a failed migration export.

Thank you both for your replies.  Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.  I've been interrupted a few times here.  Happy Monday!

The reload of my laptop was due to some Windows updates that were unable to be installed and unrelated to AutoCAD.  I was only mentioning it to give the reason for having exported my settings.

I just thought to try moving my settings zip file to my hard drive because yes, after I created the backup, I moved it to a folder which is on our cloud.  That very well could be causing the problem.  It has caused something similar before, while I tried using the zip file from the cloud instead of extracting the files from the zip first.

I will try this very soon and report back.

Thanks again for your replies.

Moving the zip file did nothing.  I wasn't terribly hopeful but stranger things have happened.

I'll just configure my setup manually.  I don't like it, but as one of my supervisors used to tell me in situations like this back in the day, "You get paid the same for marchin' as you do for fightin', so plod on young lad."

Thanks, folks!

After you’ve done configuring the settings the way you like them immediately inform IT to make an image of your computer so you can get back to these exact settings if your hard drive were to encounter issues again in the future
