Import a STP file into AutoCAD 2016

G'day,

I have been provided with a STP file that has come from a client using Inventor.

I open a drawing (nothing in it and no template) and go Import and then pick the STP file in question. I get the alert telling me that the file is being processed in background and I can check the icon in the lower right of the screen to see progress. Eventually I get a message come in the corner telling me the file is ready for importing, but how do I do anything with it?

If I pick Import all that happens is I go through the same process and nothing on screen.

How do I import it?

Thanks.

Hi,

In that dialog you find a link, click that link 😉

If you have told the import-dialog that a block should be created, then you would not see anything in the model-space as long as you don't run command _INSERT and insert that block into the model-space.

HI @wai1954,

Alfred is correct that when you do your import you have the option of importing it as-is or inserting it as a block. If you choose the latter it can be a bit deceptive. It actually creates the block inside your drawing but does not insert it.
