IMAGEATT jpeg issue

Hi there,

I am attempting to use logo on my template.  I am using the command : IMAGEATTACH, and the image is a jpeg, tiny 60KB or so (res not really good enough but thats beside the point for now).

I have included the error message I get when I double click on the are where my logo should be.  ( The screen shot is taken from within BEDIT ).  I have also included a pic of what is there rather than my logo.

Does anyone know about this? I have tried to confirm what image formats are AutoCAD 2016, 2017 friendly but addmitedly have not found out for sure.  Is jpeg really not supported??

I did make the mistake of originally putting the logo is a dedicated image folder, but have since put the logo in the same one folder as the template.  Now, its like the new path is not updating??  I noticed the error message is still showing the old file path location.  How do I get AutoCAD to update this? I have tried over and over going through the : bedit, imageattach, chosing jpeg from within same one folder, bedit, save.

Maybe this is the real problem to do with the file path??

In case it helps, here is a run down of what is happening..

When I open/close/open my tempalet, the logo is there. So the original template is working fine - every time.

The problem occurs with any other drawiungs that are not the original template. Eg, I open my template, save as eg. 'Test 1.dwg", check and the logo is there.  So I close the Test1.dwg, but when I reopen it, the jpeg is gone.  With the attacehd error messages.

Any light on this would be greatly appreciated please?

Thanks in advance!

A couple of things --

\

First - it's generally inadvisable to use an image as a logo.  As you are discovering, problems crop up.  Far better in the long run to recreate/redraw the logo as native AutoCAD entities - line, hatches, etc.

Second, the attached image is attached using a relative path to your _template_ file.  As soon as you save to a different folder, that relative path is invalid.  The image will still display until you close the file, because it's in memory.  but when you open the newly saved drawing file, Acad cannot resolve the relative path.

As far as I know the only solution is to keep a copy of the image in every folder that you save the drawing(s) into.  (you could use a saved path all the way to the drive letter of the folder that has the original image is in, but that creates its own issues with portability etc)

Have you tried to open image in a editor (such as PAINT),
copy to the clipboard, then inside the destination file use
command PASTESPEC? (Edit --> Paste Special...)

If that is not the way to proceed, then do the above in a
blank DWG file and save that file and use it as a block.
Command INSERT.

This method helps when underlaying PDF's and the PDF
does not want to cooperate (scale and rotation) in the
destination file.

Dear Mr. jommoore

Please try the below mentioned way of attaching the image to your drawing, which is showcased on the screen cast attached with this ......

Hope this could help you out....

hi there, thank you very much for your time and suggestions.

It worked to some extent but unfortunately not fully.

Heres what happened, worked /didn't work:

opened a drawing that was missing the logo,

opened logo jpeg in paint,

copied logo to clipboard

used PASTESPEC command in ACad, (it showed up fine, I moved it into place),

saved dwg,

opened dwg.

All good - logo showing, (note: the original logo jpeg was in a different folder altogether)

So it seemed to have worked so I:

opened dwg

saved as a new name, in to a different folder

closed the new drawing

opened it - ALL GOOD again. I thought great !

Put trail dwgs on a pendrive

copied those files to my Mac (I use both PC and Mac - I like to learn ACad on both)

Opened the .dwg on Acad for Mac 2016 and no joy - missing logo :cara_de_decepción:

I have attached the error messages in case anyone is interested.

I will try those files at school on the school PC's and see if that works on PC only maybe.  My gut is that they will open and show the logo correctly as long as its opened on a PC.  I will write another post once Ive checked.

Another thing - Mac does not have the PASTESPEC command which I'm sure does not help.  The closest thing was PASTECLIP which i tried but it didn't work - it pasted text of the file path kind of thing.  I think this is first time I've actually had the Mac not have some kind of work around :cara_asombrada: maybe there is one I just don't know of..

So I tried the alt you kindly suggested and created a block (on the PC) and tried that way.

OUTCOME WITH BLOCK (using PASTESPEC):

Worked on PC

Logo did not appear when opened on a Mac.  (instead a box with text Windows OLE Object)

The last attachment "this appeared instead" is the first attempt from my original post of the logo missing, (pink text ) and also the failed PASTESPEC attempt (blue text).

So all said and done I think I will have to bail on the logo idea and do as JG suggested and draw my own in ACad.  Still, I am glad to know of the PASTESPEC command, I will try on the school PC's too, that will confirm in my mind if it will open on PCs.

Thanks again for your help,

T

One little note in Macs defence - when I tried to open the files and they were missing my Mac told me about it and gave me options of what I could do (see attached), whereas the PC when the logo went missing originally just opened with it missing.

hi,

Thank you for your explanation. I would prefer my drawings not need additional files to open correctly if possible so I will follow your advice and draw a logo myself in ACad to remove the possibility of that issue.

Thanks, T
