Ideas for makeing organisations of drawings content

Hi,

I´m searching ideas, solutions, tips and tricks or the best way to manage .dwg content like furniture in blocks or in groups. My company deals with interior architecture design and has a huge archive of furniture mostly just in separate files and folders as groups not in blocks. They are differ by company names, models, sometimes by products, year… It can get very complicated with new stuff so this is not so good for someone new because it needs time to get known this kind of organization, to get in the move with everything.

I think that the concept like online CAD library (from web sites) would me great but I don´t have idea how to make this kind of organization for furniture parts/content etc with software….

It would be great if there would be more criticisms when searching for .dwg furniture.

Most AutoCAD users in company are beginners and they don´t use it all the time so we need something not so complicated and that every user from his PC/AutoCAD can use it. We are mostly using AutoCAD 2015.

Any kind of advice with this kind of organizations is welcome!

Thank you!

ADCENTER command is a good way for any autocad user to browse local centralized multi-folder organized shareable files and blocks.

After you convert all those useless GROUP objects to BLOCKs you can then, if you decide to do so, use ADCENTER to create ToolPalettes as well.

But you and your colleagues need to actually talk about that among yourselves first and decide on what everyone will actually use. No point you going it alone then everyone else just ignore your hard work.

The way you organize really should be designed for your workflow and the end user. IF the blocks are being inserted by product number don't organize them by color etc..

It sounds like your company is using block libraries. These are often good as it aids in distinguishing what items are green lighted by procurement. Remember the data in the drawings has a life outside of that department so the lack of organization you see may be organized by another business unit. The big problem we often find our selves in creating systems like this is we build them to solve problems others dont have and thats a cost lots of companies dont like to take on, so be cautious in this endeavor.

I personally wouldn't bother with creating a web site that sounds like overkill unless you are very adept at spitting those out.

I would build tool palettes and populate those with the blocks.

If the are too many blocks i might build a spread sheet or database that lists the pertinent information and create folder links to the blocks.

My personal block library (that didnt make the cut for my tool pallettes) is organized in a folder tree by discipline and then necessary sub folders.

Learn about some basic Macro Coding and Ribbon Customization. Introduction to Macro Writing. I believe it's not so difficult to learn. You can insert Block Right from Ribbon Bar block you put on support search path(WBlock command). Tool palettes is another great tool.

Learning Dynamic block can make your life easier as well . Good Luck
