You want to make a 3D object from something that is 2D?

The quickest way is to select the object, open up the properties dialogue box and select "Thickness". This will give a 2D obect DEPTH. You can do this with just about any object in Autocad. To look at the object in 3D, hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard and depress the scroll wheel on your mouse (if it has a scroll wheel) and move your mouse around.

Keep in mind that stevecee's suggestion will produce a "visual representaion" of 3D - what is referred to as a wireframe. To produce a 3D solid object you will need to turn your 2D linework into closed polylines then extrude or revolve the close polyline. There is no magic code.

Hi,

>> Their is no option to chage 2d to 3d

Can you please describe what exactly is meant by that?

What data do you have (show the drawing to us) so we know what you think should be converted.

Just as an example, if you see a circe in 2D you don't know if that should get a cylinder or a sphere in 3D. And that is what we need to know what you have and why you think there is anything that can convert 2D automatically to 3D.

There's no option to change AutoCAD from 2D to 3D, because it's ALWAYS in 3d.  Every coordinate is located in a 3d Cartesian coordinate, X, Y, and Z.

You going to have to expolain better what is is you're trying to accomplish before anyone can offer any help.

Welcome to these Forums, by the way!

Some people obviously think that you mean you want to change some 2D object to a 3D version of itself.  If you mean, instead, that you want to somehow change from a 2D drawing mode to a 3D mode, I think @jggerth's reply is your answer -- there is no such setting.  AutoCAD keeps track of everything in 3D, and if you don't want 3D, you can limit what you do to 2D by merely not giving anything thickness or elevation, nor using Z coordinates [other than 0] in drawing anything.  You can switch to drawing in a 3D way any time you choose, without changing any setting, and you can make 2D things into 3D things with various commands already mentioned, among others.

Hi @Kent1Cooper,

There are some good answers that have been posted in this thread. I am wondering though it you are wanting to change your workspace from Drafting & Annotation (sort of a 2D set of tools) to the 3d Basics or 3D Modeling workspace.

IF that is your real question, then check out this AKN Article To Work With Workspaces

Can you post screen shot of the 2010 screen and indicate exactly what option you are referring to?

A picture might be worth a thousand words.

Use the Windows Snipping tool.

Hi asishkbiju123456

I am awaiting an update on your post so that I can assist you. Please let us know more clearly what you are trying to see on your screen - perhaps as suggested by taking a screen shot of the screen at school.

hello,

Im sorry if this has already been answered but I'm new here and Im experiencing the same problem. I have installed Autocad 2025 for mac (the full version, not the LTE).

I am having the same problem. Im trying to switch my workspace from 2d to 3d, but I cannot find the settings. When I click on the little settings icon on the right, these are the options it gives me. There is no option to switch from 2d to 3d. Please help. Let me know if I need to provide more info for better assistance. (I have included screenshots of what Im able to see).

Thank you in advance.

Greetings: the MAC OS version of AutoCAD is very different and nothing in this post that you are replying to is applicable to your variant. Sorry. Same is true for most posts in this exact forum.

The dedicated AutoCAD for MAC forum is at a different link, here it is https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-for-mac/ct-p/4051 You should be repost there instead.

I found a reply to a similar post over there that appears to be relevant
