I can't select the UCS Icon after a while

 Hi everyone!

 

I'm having a weird problem that is seriously bugging me.

 

When I open Autocad (2017), I prompt the UCS command, drag it, rotate it, whatever, in Modelspace. But after a while it just stops working. I can't pick it, I can't rotate it. I can access Properties and so by clicking the right button, but, if I want to rotate the drawing again I have to prompt the command again. This means that I have to be constantly prompting "UCS" in some drawings and that's pretty terrible. I haven't found any solution to this.

Is this happening only in select files or all files? Can you try a Reset Settings to Default?

if you're using any outsourse Lisps or plug-in this weird behavior usually happened.if not please when it's not working type DDUCS coomand line and tick  Allow selecting UCS icon. see attached image

hey everyone!

 

Sorry for not replying, I've been busy.

 

@imadHabash yes, I have that checked. I was looking around for solutions, and I came across that and made sure I had that checked. But the problem persisted. And I can click on it and it becomes highlighted/selected; but then I can't pick the blue corners to rotate or drag... it becomes like a static selected thing... it is selected but you can't do anything with it...

 

@john.vellek It hasn't happened in any other file so far, which is good. Maybe something wrong with the file? I don't know...

 

The only thing that made it work was closing Autocad and restart it. But then again, after a while,

Sorry for taking so long to answer. I can't send you the file, because it belongs to the office I work for, but I can attach a jpeg file. In it you can see that I have the cursor on top of the UCS icon, and the icon is not highlighted... so I cannot do anything with it. Oh, and it's happening in another file.

I'm having the same issues as well. I'm able to select the UCS icon when I open a file (I'm using exercise files off a Linkdin Learning tutorial) but it stops working after a while. I'm using the 2021 Student version of Autocad btw.

same issue for me as well. USC setting is set for "allow selecting UCS icon". Funny thing is, it let me flip the UCS once, but now I cannot select it again afterwards to flip it back. I closed autocad and reopened, since it seems like a software gltich, now I can flip and select UCS like normal. cant say that would always work thou...

I'm also having this issue. I dragged the UCS to a point I wanted to use it at, but now I can't rotate it. The only solution thus far has been to close AutoCAD and reopen it, which is time consuming when I have to do that multiple times a day. Has a solution been discovered yet?

If you have to close and restart your AutoCAD, the problem is at the system level for you, assuming your AutoCAD version is fully patched and updated.

Post a screenshot of the ABOUT command in the program, a screenshot of your GRAPHICSCONFIG command pop-up, and list your OS please as well as where do you store files and how are you connected to them.

"me too" posts go nowhere as you can see above your post, so the more details and answers you provide and better others can help.

Running Windows 10. Files are on a server connected through our network here in the office. I am not working remotely.

Rotated UCS, or UCS set to WORLD?

It does not seem to matter, but last time it was set to world, I moved it to the point I was going to work from, and then lost the ability to grab it before I could rotate it.


Does resetting UCS to WORLD fix the issue?

Not at all. Switching to a layout and back to model space has no effect either. Even switching between drawings doesn't fix it.


Does REGENALL command fix the selection issue?

No, it doesn't.

 

Are you in modelspace, or trying to do this inside a viewport in paperspace?

I have only noticed it happening in model space.

 

How long a time are we talking about?

It seems random. Sometimes it's right away, just minutes into opening a drawing, other times, I can go all day and it never happens. I can't see a pattern to it.


How often do you save/qsave while drafting?

I have autosave set to every 2 minutes.

Sadly there is no fix for RANDOM: for example, I see no such issues at all in 2021.1 in Win10 for the 9+months it has been my primary version. You are not doing anything different that what I do every day.

AutoCAD is famous for "random" problems and there truly is no solution for any of them. If and when you find a trigger or common "I did this then it happens" post back and see if others can replicate it.

I appreciate the help. Thanks a bunch. It did it again just now. first drawing of two that I  opened this morning. Clicked on the UCS to bring it over to the area I'm working in, and now I can't select it at all. I just tried undo and redo, clicking on it both times, and nothing. I just tried DDUCS, but nothing changed. I moved to the other drawing I have open, and am able to select the UCS, but I haven't moved it yet. I'm going to try to capture video of this.

Change UCSICON's location to NO ORIGIN and always check the SELECTABLE option if it stops working, see if that helps.

Remember to use the UCSICON>ALL after changing it so it is applied to all viewports.

This happens to me all the time

 

I rely on the UCS heavily as Im in 3D 90% of the time.

 

Did you work out a fix for this or even a reset?

 

It totally destroys the workflow as its such a critical function
