How to set a different annotation scale than what the Viewport is set for

Our Survey department needs to plot at 40 scale, but wants to keep the XREFed annotative text at 20 scale.  They do not have write permissions to the XREF files.

Is there a way to accomplish this without needing to copy & explode the text from the XREF?

Create a new file that references the one that needs to be plotted. Set the scale factor of the annotation scale for the desired printing scale so that it matches the "normal" one. I could give you numbers, but your terminology for the scales in question is a bit vague.

Hi RobDraw, thanks for the feedback.  Sorry for my vagueness...I'll try to clarify.

Basically, the Engineering team created text in their DWGs that Survey needs reference & keep small so that it doesn't start overlapping/crashing since Engineering likely didn't account for text placement for Survey's use.

Typically Engineering has their text set for a "0.1 Annotative" text style so that it'll display at .1 (10 point) on their 20 scale dwgs.

Survey needs to XREF the Eng. dwg & display that text at 0.05 whether they're plotting at 20 scale or 40 scale...but we're not sure how to accomplish that without modifying Eng's dwg.

I think @RobDraw's solution of changing the actual scale in the Named Scale that is used form the scale list is interesting but I fear that it might affect other objects.

Is the text in question set to it's own Text Style? If so, you might be able to change the defined height there.

Can you attach a couple sample files so I can play with this a bit?

Not an option, not the way you describe it, unless you want to do this in papaerspace with two separate viewports, one set to each scale, then "put them together" for your plotting task.
