When i try to work on this file it is very slow and I have tried methods provided in the article but no luck and I have tried the 3rd party tool to purge but no use still the drawing works very slow. Thanks in advance.

Share your file here (use a cloud service you prefer).

or try the four free tools here (especially the first and last ones on that list)

Hi,

>>"I have tried methods provided in the article"

>>"how to reduce the file size "

How should we know that without knowing your file content?

The large list of very good general tips are in the article and if you have already tested them without success,
then it becomes difficult (without knowing the file).

Maybe the file is already perfect and that's the smallest file size - without the file we can't know.

Use ETRANSMIT to create a .ZIP with all related files, share this package and we can take a look.

You can use your dropbox or a service like www.swisstransfer.com

to upload, link creation -> share this link.

In public for all, or if you like - send me your download link as private message.

Can the file be separated out into multiple, smaller files?

@pendean & @cadffm

I am sorry I cannot share the file due to the privacy issue and this file is an 2D shop layout which consists of numerous blocks of Machineries and it takes a lot of time to explode each block and also to purge the drawing and there are many unpurged items after the purge result, and even tried using the SuperPurge but i cannot even select the tool to perform it gets hanged and need to End Task

Let me try your suggestions and come back with the update.

@NoDakAutoCAD

Cannot be separated it is having only one Layout drawing.

And this test:

Copy this file, open the copy,

Unlock all layers

Detach all external references (XRef palette)

Delete all layouts

Erase all from Modelspace by type in:

ERASE<enter><all><enter><enter>

Start Purge Dialog, purge all (so often until you can't purge more)

Nothing else

Qsave.

Q1: How big is the filesize?

Q2: If filesize is unusal big, can you share this file?

Other things you can try depends on the purpose of the drawing file.

1. Delete all lines shorten than a certain length. (If the drawing is only for printing purpose)

2. Use some 3rd party plugin to find out exploded blocks and rebuild them.

3. Wblock it out as a new file to remove objects on frozen layers.

And how big is a file if you do the same, but instead of ERASE<enter>ALL<enter><enter>

you start ERASE and use Cross&Windows selection only?

Not for printing purpose and it is used frequently for editing the Shop Layout change but due to slowness it is not possible to edit

2. Use some 3rd party plugin to find out exploded blocks and rebuild them.

I am trying many 3rd party tools but results with hang not able to execute

3. Wblock it out as a new file to remove objects on frozen layers.

I have tried this but not able to reduce the file size much

Note: It doesn't throw any error while working but the problem is its very slow and it hangs if we try to update the drawing due to file size I think and drawing looks very simple of 2D layout but the size is too large and I tried to convert to DXF to check but lol it increased the file size to 2.5GB

@cadffm

I checked with cross window selection it is showing the same size

Hi,

>>"I tried to convert to DXF"

DXF is an uncompressed = bigger is not possible.
the best compression is the current/highest DWG format.

>>" I think and drawing looks"

Start to find out what the biggest part is - Easy job, but need time (or luck).

>>"but the problem is its very slow and it hangs"

If that's the goal, you asked the wrong question!

You can have a 5MB file and you can't work in it and another file with 100MB and it works well.

Important is  the file content, not the file size.

>>"I checked with cross window selection it is showing the same size"

Okay, that means there are no "hidden objects".
