How to recreate the boundary around a selected Hatch or Fill pattern?

I am preparing for the AutoCAD certificate exam. One of the exam objectives is to recreate the boundary around a selected Hatch or Fill pattern. I am having trouble with it.

I tried to click on recreate command, then selected either Region or Polyline, then typed "Yes" or "No".

I mean I tried four combinations:

1. Region, "Yes"

2. Region, "No"

3. Polyline, "Yes"

4. Polyline, "No"

However, no matter which combination, nothing appeared later in the command line. Therefore, I didn't how should I continue to work on it. I mean I don't know how to recreate a new boundary for the Hatch.

Does anyone know how to recreate the boundary? Thanks!

recreate command? what's that? Where did it come from? maybe you need to ask the creator of that customization for help

HATCHEDIT command does that all day long for everyone else in AutoCAD: need to switch?
are you sure those are hatch patterns?
Are you ignoring possible error messages or alerts at the commandline that you may not see because it is only 1-line tall?

Click on hatch, right click, generate boundary, hit ENTER.

Awesome! I've always used pendean's method. The right click saves several steps! Thank you.

If you mean that you are selecting recreate in Hatch Edit, you may be generating a PLINE without knowing it. When I do your process (through Hatch edit) I select PLINE, then Y that yes I'd like the line associated with the hatch. Then the Hatch editor pops up again, I hit enter a final time, it creates the line on whichever layer is current. I have it set to open the full hatch editor though, and I cannot remember what setting that is. Double check that you aren't creating lines or regions on a frozen or turned off layer.

Thank you, everyone's effects!

I think I misunderstand the recreation of the boundary in the first place. I thought that I needed to make a new boundary by polyline and region to change the shape of the hatch. However, actually, a new region or polyline will be created around the hatch by used the Recreate Command.
