Hi @ibrahimo90,

AutoCAD doesn't open these file in their native format. There are numerous conversion applications available on the Internet. I have no experience using them so I can't make any recommendations.

Right click on the filename.

Select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

(you might be able to attach *.obj files here directly without zipping, but not sure)

Once I have tested your particular file - I can explain how to use the geometry.

Did you download this file from somewhere?

If so, do you have a url?

I tried opening the file in 3 different programs that normally read *.obj files and I got errors.

I was expecting to see 3D geometry, not 2D.

I would not know what to do with that even if it did open.

Hi @ibrahimo90,

I too tried to open your file in a variaety of ways but always received error messages. If you can view it with your app, what formats can you export it to?

HI @ibrahimo90, there are third-party plugins available but I have not found a free one to try. I used third party software to try and convert it but the file has some errors. A viewer reads the data differently than if you acutally have it in an edit mode.  Where is your file coming from ? Is it Waveform? Perhaps they have some software to help you with this operation.

Hi,

Autodesk has a software called FBX-Converter, this can convert OBJ to FBX and the FBX can be imported in most Autodesk applications, so also into AutoCAD.

Download from >>>here<<<.

But I'm not sure about what you really have as file as OBJ is known as a 3D format, the screenshot you've shown looks more like 2D (or maybe a schematic drawing).

For reference,

Autodesk Inventor 2017 and Autodesk Fusion 360 will open *.obj files.

I have had good success with converting *.obj files into solid bodies in Fusion 360.

Fusion 360 will run on Windows or Mac.

These programs are free to students http://engineersrule.org

If this were a 3D OBJ mesh file - this is how I would convert it to a BRep solid body (that can be edited in any CAD program).

Turn on your sound.

Hello I'm doing every thing you did but still can't open the file with autocad.

Should I save it with another extension?.

PD: I will attach the obj file.

Hi @YulianoM

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I opened the OBJ file in Inventor and then exported to AutoCAD. Let me know if this file works properly for you

I see that the resulting DWG was garbage. So, I brought the OBJ into Fusion and converted the mesh to a BREP and then saved as a STEP which came into AutoCAD.

Thank you for the fast respond and the welcome, and, yes I'm new.

Following with this thread, I still have some problems first I have been following what's the video says but I notice something when I try to convert the mesh to T-spline, I get a error message:

Error.jpg

I have also gone to  preferences > Mesh > Triangulate mesh "Turn if off" and I still getting the same error.

Any tips.?

Hi @YulianoM,

I am a beginner at Fusion 360 but I made a video for you of how I got it to work. The Fusion Experts probably have a faster/better way!

  • Start a new design in Fusion 360
  • Create a Mesh
  • Insert Mesh and select your OBJ file
  • Finish the mesh
  • Create Base Feature
  • From the Mesh option in Modify select Mesh to BREP
  • Select all of the objects, click OK
  • Finish Base Feature
  • Export to Step
  • In AutoCAD, use import

The first six bytes are AC1024 (AutoCAD 2010 file).  Change the file extension of BARA (1) to .DWG and it will open in AutoCAD 2010 or higher.
