How to draw in 2D on a 3D Drawing

I need to do one of two things. 1. convert a 3D topo drawing from a survey (no solids - only lines) to 2D.  OR  2. Set autocad to only draw in 2D even though it is a 3D drawing. I am using the instructors version of Autocad2015 on a MAC mini. FLATTEN is an unrecognizable command and FLATSHOT does not work because the topo lines are not solids. Any suggestions, ideas, or alternative solutions out there?

Select all contours, use CTRL+1 (Properties) change the Z to zero, will that work?

Does AutoCAD for Mac contain the OSNAPZ System Variable?  Setting that appropriately will accomplish your item 2.

I thought that might have been the solution as well. The problem with
selecting all of the contours is that the ability to manipulate any of the
axises goes away from the properties box and there is therefore no way to
change them. I can select a piece of a contour line ( the contours
themselves seem to be made of several lines instead of one polyline) and
then change the z axis of it. Sometimes the whole piece moves to the 0 z
axis some times just one end of it. It will be a quite cumbersome method if
I am forced to go that route. There must be an easier way.

My version does have OSNAPZ, but I am not familiar with it. Can I just set OSNAPZ to 0 and then I will be drawing in 2D. This would be optimal as I would like to retain the 3D quality of the topo and eventually I may do a 3D model of the building on this drawing. However, I am only in the Schematic Design Phase right now and I need to draw in 2D for awhile. Thank you for your response.

Attach your drawing and let's test it.

OSNAPZ Exactly the handy little tool that I knew had to be there somewhere. I set OSNAPZ to 1 which keeps my drawing in 2D (by keeping all z axis at 0) and retains the 3D quality of the survey I am drawing on, thereby allowing me to draw in 3D later. I am in Schematic design now so this 2D snap tool is just what the doctor ordered for this stage of the game. Thanks again.
